Wheeler Staffing Partners is hiring a Director of Shared Services & Payroll in Flower Mound, TX. The Director – Shared Services and Payroll oversees the Shared Service processes including: AP, AR, T&E, and Payroll. A successful candidate would thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment and is willing to pitch in to get the job done. This role is responsible for developing a team of 11 including leaders and staff.

Shared Services

  • Direct all aspects of centralized finance services, including but not limited to, credit and collections, AR billing, accounts payable, T&E reimbursement, and master data management
  • Build, develop, motivate, and manage a high-performing shared services finance and accounting team focusing on finance and accounting acumen, leadership behaviors, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Identify, propose, and implement appropriate cost-effective technology solutions to align / support overall performance goals and objectives
  • Establish service level agreements (SLAs) with business partners and develop and provide KPIs and metrics to senior management
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement of services, seeking proactive approaches to solve business needs/problems, while also enhancing the understanding and acceptance of the shared services supportive capabilities
  • Implement and ensure execution of relevant internal controls over financial processes
  • Serve as a key partner to senior leadership regarding strategic initiative discussions by communicating the accounting and finance implications of various strategies and transactions
  • Lead the shared services organization in building a high performing, cohesive organization focused on continuous improvement of work stream processes, internal procedures, and performance analytics in support of shared services objectives
  • This leader will be the catalyst for developing, implementing, and continuing use of standardized processes within established accounting policies and business procedures

Payroll

  • The Director of Payroll will lead the Payroll Manager to ensure complete, timely and accurate processing of payroll, earnings and deductions
  • Designs, maintains and documents effective internal controls for the payroll functions

Team Development & Management Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for payroll related projects and building collaborative relationships with leaders across the institution
  • Oversees tasks necessary to accomplish payroll processing objectives, including relationships with human resources, accounting, operations, legal, internal/external auditors, and state and federal agencies
  • Oversees the timely and accurate processing of payroll, earnings and deductions
  • Interacts on a regular basis with the senior management and external customers for integrating solutions that address the organizations goals
  • Establishes payroll strategy and vision to align with shared services and other corporate initiatives
  • Supports payroll management by resolving all payment issues with benefits, human resources, consultants, technical resources
  • Responsible for all payroll tax activities, compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and ensuring timely filings of each jurisdiction’s periodic returns
  • Responsible for remaining current on new legislation and regulatory ruling impacting payroll
  • Understands payroll, HR and accounting systems (UKG, NetSuite) in relation to payroll processing
  • Collaborates with payroll contractors, systems support, and IT resources to prioritize and resolve both proactive and reactive IT support for all components of our payroll systems, as well as multiple inbound and outbound interfaces
  • Communicates systems issues with management (UKG)
  • Develops, maintains, updates and communicates organization-wide payroll policies and processes regarding earnings, deductions, time keeping as well as government compliance reporting
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with payroll-related vendors and government agencies
  • Coach and develop the team members to ensure strong bench for development and growth
  • Ensure process documentation and cross training

Other responsibilities

  • Support Finance leadership requests, special projects, initiatives and transactions by ensuring complete & accurate adoption into the Shared Service processes and team
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or related field
  • Preferred 10+ years of progressive supervisory/management experience within a payroll or shared service leadership
  • Franchise accounting experience is a plus
  • Systems experience with: NetSuite, Tipalti, UKG is a plus
  • Working knowledge of transactional accounting processes (AP / AR / Payroll)
  • Working ability to communicate effectively with others using written and spoken English
  • Ability to recognize discrepancies/errors in data/information and to respond to work errors in a professional manner, working collaboratively and cooperatively with others
  • Possess proficient analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work under demanding time constraints and production goals
  • Demonstrated ability to model customer-focused behaviors leading to outstanding customer experiences
  • Consistently demonstrates a commitment to the organizations policies and procedures, including but not limited to, attendance, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and ethical responsibilities.
