The Sr. Director, IT is a meaningful role within the Corporate Solutions and Integrations, IT Shared Services organization to further transform and lead the technology solutions and systems for Global Business Services (GBS) organization. This role is a trusted IT partner for the GBS leadership who drives the outcomes and technology strategy. The scope includes supporting all functions in GBS and Legal which include, Shared Service Center Strategy, Operations & Supply Chain, GBS Automation, Global Procurement, Real Estate and Security, and PPI.
Reporting directly to the Vice President, IT Corporate Solutions & Integration, this individual will be the IT Leader for GBS/Legal and will execute on technology roadmaps and programs. We are looking for a dynamic leader who is a self-starter, puts the customer first, leads courageously, develops continuously, and thinks strategically to achieves results.
The Sr. Director will provide oversight and leadership of all technology strategy, service delivery, operational effectiveness, continuous improvement and staff coaching and development. This position will help identify, build, change and implement efforts related to the current IT delivery model for GBS and Legal. This role will interact with their functional partners to provide efficient and effective services that support the ongoing needs of the global business.
- Strategic Portfolio management – work with Functional teams to develop an integrated vision of how enabling technology can support the future-state vision, timeline, and business case. Lead the team to manage the portfolio to outcome based delivery
- Strategic communication and business partnership – Demonstrate executive presence and influencing skills to gain alignment on IT system strategy and deliverables with active partnership and facilitation across various business stakeholders.
- Technology Innovation – proactively understand the technology trends, opportunities and constraints within the Thermofisher environment to make technology decisions and drive execution. Exhibit IT thought leadership by providing a point-of-view in deploying next generation technologies.
- Technical Governance and Standards: Contributes to, and influences the development of, standards and changes to systems/applications. Provides technical and business expertise.
- Cross functional partnership – Coordinates across the IT landscape to achieve program objectives:
- Build and maintain relationships with Group / Regional / Local IT leadership to support planning and implementation activities
- Partner with ETO and other application support teams for anything impacting the ERP landscape and future support activities
- Interact with the Infrastructure team to acquire and install hardware / software and provide estimates for buildout costs
- Vendor Management: Own vendor relationships to maximize value to the business. Negotiate simple to moderately complex contracts.
- Team management: Identifies the roles, skills and knowledge required. Ensures staff has the resources and skills needed to support all work initiatives. Provide direct supervision including mentoring, performance management and staffing decisions.
- Enables alignment across the teams by using standard methodologies and by scaling base solutions.
- Manage a budget of both capital investments and operational expenses including meeting the targets set forth in the annual operating plan
- Engage with peers in IT to ensure full awareness and alignment on priorities and deliverables within the broader organization.
- Act with a high level of integrity, intensity, involvement and innovation towards the success of our customers, our organization and our employees
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in technical area leading and implementing IT systems and platforms.
- At least 5 years of business partnership experience with exposure to senior management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of, and experience with applications that support Global Business Services – Supply Chain/Operations, Procurement (Supply Connect – Coupa, Concur etc.) and experience with system needs to transitions organization to Shared Services model.
- Experience working with ERP 3rd party applications/SAAS.
- Preferred Lean and Six Sigma certification and Knowledge of agile methodologies with proven track record of successful program delivery using Agile.
- Outstanding people leader with the ability to attract and retain high talent.
- Experience in resolving complex business, systems, change management and program delivery challenges.
- Creative and innovative thinker with strong collaborative leadership skills to work in partnership with people relations and senior leadership teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and an ability to communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Knowledge to build and manage IT- business relationship, facilitation, communication and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to work with large cross-functional teams.
- Ability to identify opportunities for business value and process improvement, communicate strategies, and champion adoption to achieve desired results.
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and fully understand and adopt Thermo Fisher values and leadership model in daily management work.
- Excellent knowledge on IT solutions, new technologies and understand technology trends.
- Good mix of technical and business background. Positive, collaborative and solution-oriented attitude.
