We currently have an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced individual to join our growing team at the Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM) as Head of Finance.
The role of NDM Head of Finance reports directly to the NDM Associate Head of Department and Directors of Finance and Operations, supporting them in the delivery of financial management across all NDM units, centres, institutes and strategic functions. The Head of Finance leads the NDM’s finance function including two Deputy Heads of Finance, five Finance Managers and their teams in addition to a shared service team. You will take responsibility for a rolling 5-year planning exercise, development of strategic business relationships, both internal and external to NDM, strategic capital planning, plans for the replacement of capital equipment, and support for the Department’s overseas programmes (AAP’s).
Through direct reports, you will be responsible for the effective operation of the finance shared service centre and the finance managers within the NDM units (jointly line managed with the Unit Business Managers). Demonstrating strong leadership, influencing and diplomatic skills, the successful candidate will promote the values and behaviours of Professional Services, and be the interface between professional services and the academic community in the area of finance, ensuring adherence and compliance with the University’s financial policies and regulations. You will work with colleagues across the department to ensure the finance team strategy, structure and ethos is aligned to effectively deliver the departments academic strategy.
It is essential that you hold an accounting qualification such as ACA, CIMA, ACCA or CIPFA and will come armed with a strong track record in leading, managing and developing teams of finance professionals. A sound understanding of foreign exchange management will be critical to this role as well as a proven ability to communicate financial and management accounts processes to non-financial staff, including senior management.
Confident in your ability to establish and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders across the department and wider University, you will also have strong problem solving skills with a preference for generating solution-based ideas. The successful candidate will need to come from a higher education and/or research environment.
