Wells Fargo is embarking on a multiyear transformation journey aimed at end-to-end modernization of Payment systems across wholesale and consumer banking and is seeking a Transformation Special Projects (Business Execution Director) with deep expertise in transformation, risk and controls, payment products and technology to solve key strategic problems associated with the Payments Transformation effort. Solving these problems will enable faster delivery of the program’s objectives, which include a stronger risk and controls environment, operational efficiencies, and increased customer satisfaction/self-service. This role will report into Head of Payments Transformation and will partner closely with various Heads of Operations, Product and Digital Heads across the enterprise.
At the heart of this role is the goal to improve the Payment Risk across the end-to-end Payments Lifecycle. Examples of various sub initiatives are –
Working across the enterprise in a collaborative, data-led and fact-based way to identify gaps/opportunities across the end-to-end Payments Lifecycle Build a roadmap to address these gaps and opportunities through both strategic and immediate/operational solutions Work with Digital, Operations and Product Heads to drive end-to-end digitization and self-service (a move away from non-strategic channel led payment initiation) Build an infrastructure to measure progress against the risk/exposure. Additionally, incorporate the right metrics (e.g., channel migration progress, control automation progress) to drive the right focus
This position is also known as a Business Execution Director
- Run an enterprise program, across multiple business areas and senior stakeholders to deliver/coordinate change across all business areas, covering all electronic payment types to accelerate transformation, improve operating performance, mitigate risks and improve the client experience
- Manage and drive change across multiple lines of business, including the experience needed to credibly challenge the technical architecture, risk and control discipline, execution approach and work effort prioritization
- Build sustainable program frameworks including project plans; roles and responsibilities; programs forums and councils; data management; reporting routines; stakeholder management plans; communication plans; etc.
- Provide program leadership for large complex operations and technology transformational efforts to ensure success and sustainability. Lead workstream teams to ensure daily execution and overall results track to sponsor goals
- Consult with leadership to assess program needs, discuss gaps, and advise on the sequencing and organization of work to achieve program goals
- Responsible for proactively identifying potential risks when implementing change, along with developing mitigation strategies and plans
- Develop strategic concepts through the entire concept lifecycle – initial exploration, strategic design, socialization, concept approval and funding, program design, and program launch – and where necessary, provide program leadership through implementation
- Develop transformation-related materials for executive audiences such as the Operating Committee, Board of Directors and associated committees, Regulators, and other Wells Fargo leadership
- Lead both planned and ad hoc strategic analyses as assigned by the Payments Transformation leader
- Lead ad-hoc key initiatives for the Head of Shared Services Ops from ideation to implementation
- Lead through influence, often without direct authority, persuading through use of data and facts.
- Adjust and adapt to the rolling, day-to-day changes that transpire in the running of programs/initiatives.
Required Qualifications, US:
- 8+ years of Business Execution, Implementation, or Strategic Planning experience, including Management experience, or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 4+ years of management experience
Desired Qualifications:
- 8+ years of leadership experience in a payments, wires or financial services organization
- Management consulting experience with a top tier firm
- Previous experience with leading enterprise level transformation or process improvement initiatives
- Ability to effectively assess stakeholder, partner, or client needs while consulting, building solutions, and developing processes
- Ability to influence, partner, and negotiate with senior business leaders to gain commitment to accomplish business goals across large complex organization
- Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience working closely with senior and executive leadership.
- Possesses executive presence, high energy, ability to manage complexity and a broad scope of daily work activities and stakeholders.
- Significant experience designing and leading large-scale cross-enterprise programs.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, combined with strategic business focus and vision.
