The enterprise network architect will possess mastery in the most current principles and practices in large public sector network design and can translate business requirements into technical and functional enterprise solutions in a shared services environment. This role will lead the development and execution of the enterprise network strategy, ensuring that it is aligned with the enterprise technology needs.
The enterprise network architect reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and works with state business leaders to determine the business and functional needs for customer service delivery. The enterprise network architect has master-level knowledge of public sector enterprise networks and provides technical guidance to other senior architects and network engineers on projects of high complexity for network Maryland (nwMD), wide area and local networks (WAN/LAN), Maryland First Responder Radio System (MDFirst), Wi-Fi, and Datacenter (DC) teams. Participates as a senior technical subject matter expert on major IT network engineering projects/programs and application rollouts.
Enables DoIT to expediently respond to opportunities and challenges. The enterprise network architect designs solutions to solve complex problems considering applications, computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and desired results for nwMD, MDFirst, WAN/LAN, and DCs.
- Plans and leads service recovery processes for major incidents/P1 tickets.
- Provides leadership in handling technical issues and escalations.
- Consults with lead network engineers and system architects on the service improvement programs and possible automation for delivery teams.
- Creates enterprise network architectures that consider functional, business, and legislative requirements.
- Designs, tests, and inspects new and existing enterprise network systems.
- Performs enterprise network planning, modeling, and analysis.
- Designs, implements, and manages security countermeasures in coordination with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) when network vulnerabilities arise.
- Develops technical and design enterprise network documentation.
- Develops enterprise network system design and optimization recommendations.
- Develops and executes implementation plans and performance validation tests.
- Develops and delivers professional presentations to internal DoIT, customer, and executive leadership.
- Manages highly technical enterprise network and radio solutions and frameworks.
- Provides problem identification, escalation, and resolution of WAN/LAN performance, hardware, network carriers, and cybersecurity issues in cooperation with the network services providers and other stakeholders such as the CISO.
MINIMUM:
Experience: Eight years’ experience working as a Sr. Telecommunications & Radio Network Architect, overseeing public-sector high-speed enterprise telecommunications (wired and wireless) and radio networks design. Three of the six years must have been in a supervisory role providing technical guidance to other radio network architects and telecommunications network engineers.

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following desired experience:
- Working knowledge of public safety requirements.
- Working knowledge of common circuits, fiber and broadband
- Management of a large IT budget.
- Working knowledge in Contract management and overseeing vendors/contractors
