Howmet Aerospace is currently in search of a Senior Manager, Payroll Tax & Operations, to join our financial shared services team at our corporate headquarters office in Pittsburgh, PA.
The primary purposes of the position are:
- To maintain and verify the proper application of payroll tax theory and practices consistent with company policies across USA and Canadian laws and regulations and in accordance with applicable Union and other labor agreements.
- Perform the reconciliation of all payroll liability and payroll general ledger cash and bank accounts for domestic locations in compliance with Howmet reconciliation standards.
- Lead our Garnishments and Payroll Tax work as well as our onsite segment support work.
- Lead our Canadian payroll function and liaise with our Mexico based Payroll function.
- Execute special projects as assigned.
- Coordinate audit self-assessment tool (ASAT) development and testing for assigned area(s) according to company ASAT standards.
Major activities / Key challenges
- Help ensure compliant payroll and implement process changes so Howmet is compliant with any payroll related regulations/legislation change. This entails working directly with Business Segments, other Resource Units, and Payroll vendors as applicable.
- Ensure appropriate payroll controls are in place, while supporting control reviews, internal audits and external audits as required. Ensure the payroll and supported processes are ASAT compliant.
- Ensure payroll is reconciled and produce reports for finance.
- Directly lead our Canadian Payroll team and manage associated vendors. Work with our Mexico base Payroll function on a liaise basis. Set and monitor service level objectives as appropriate. The ideal candidate must be able to manage these inquires in parallel with their other duties.
- Lead our Garnishments and Payroll Tax functions as well as our onsite segment support.
- Ensure necessary ASAT is performed and ensure all necessary actions are completed.
- Drive efficient use of technology to support payroll operations.
- Provide support to the HR Technology Team relating to project development and testing.
- Drive process improvements as identified in the normal performance of daily activities.
Essential Knowledge & Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of end-to-end payroll processing requirements
- Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and their impact to associates’ pay
- Solid understanding of required compliance with legal, regulatory, and financial requirements governing functional tasks and activities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a team, interact with internal and external customers, and, management.
- Subject matter expertise in the application of tax/accounting regulations and compliance
- Knowledge of interactions between HRMS systems/payroll processing, and tax compliance
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 7 years of payroll experience working in/leading a large-scale payroll function.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPP Preferred
- Degree in accounting or finance
- Strong quantitative, organizational, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated experience in project management methodologies and techniques.
