The UCSF Health Shared Services department serves as a center of expertise for a variety of Financial Planning and Budget (FP&B) and Decision Support Services (DSS), administrative business processes, reporting, and selective analysis to increase transparency, efficiency, and standardization, to create capacity in Business Lines to increase their strategic value to the organization and support the business entities in critical financial deliverables.
- Direct oversight of the Decision Support function and team, responsible for the Cost Accounting System, Business and Service Line profitability reporting, annual service demand budgets, and decision support system integration of clinical and financial data in a patient-centric repository
- Developing and implementing strategic and tactical tools, resources and analytical support to enable financial decision-making for the entire health system.
- Supports the financial integration of data for UCSF Health system and is seen as the expert in collecting, organizing, and analyzing critical data by creating, managing and continuous improvement of models that allow leadership to look at data across the business entities and business lines in the absence of general ledger support. Is the single source of this data analysis and reporting
- Supports the organizational strategy for business growth by serving as the key point of contact with external consultants and internal project groups. Provides them with the resources, context and education, data, and analysis to ensure successful project conclusion specifically around growth.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related area or equivalent experience/training
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Decision Support or Financial Management in the Healthcare field, preferably in a hospital setting
- Minimum of Five (5) years or more of experience leading teams
- Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork and collaboration across departments for effective problem-solving, conflict resolution, support for organizational values, and consistent achievement of objectives
- Experience with hospital cost accounting concepts and systems, and familiarity/understanding of hospital and professional patient billing data including healthcare reimbursement concepts
- EPSi or other Cost accounting systems experience
- Knowledge of and experience working with Healthcare specific EMR, Decision Support, and Financial accounting software. (e.g. Epic, EPSi, PeopleSoft or similar).
- Thorough knowledge of healthcare decision support systems and best practices, as well as clinical finance and cost accounting principles
- Excellent skills in developing strategic plans, evaluating and developing staff competencies, organizing operations, and fiscal management.
- Excellent critical thinking and business process skills, with the ability to implement effective solutions.
- Advanced skills to educate management and tailor decision support objectives and goals to meet a broad variety of needs
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Excellent ability to motivate, influence, and persuade others, and cultivate a strong commitment to efficiency, functionality, and quality customer service
- Knowledge of clinical, financial, and business information technology software, hardware, tools, techniques, and systems
- Outstanding project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines simultaneously
- Must be flexible, have a positive attitude, and a good sense of humor is highly desirable
