The Senior Manager of Shared Services Accounting will be responsible for the shared service accounting functions for Summit Utilities, Inc. This role will report to the Director of Operations Accounting and will work closely with other groups including FP&A, HR, IT and other shared service departments. The position will ensure shared service costs are recorded in compliance with GAAP and FERC accounting standards and look for opportunities to improve processes.

  • Manage, mentor and train direct reports.
  • Review and approve journal entries in accordance with month end close schedules related to cash, prepaids, accrued liabilities, debt, payroll, intercompany, eliminations and expenses.
  • Review and approve the monthly allocations.
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations for shared services.
  • Review monthly expense trending reports with staff for shared services, ensuring expenses are aligned with expectations.
  • Work with FP&A, HR, IT and other shared service departments to research and resolve any issues with shared service results.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual utility commission regulatory reporting.
  • Assist with regulatory rate filings.
  • Assist with interim and year-end audits.
  • Ad hoc projects assigned by the Director of Operations Accounting.

Education And Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s in accounting required.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of accounting experience required.
  • 3+ years of management experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills and meticulous analytical capability.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and ability to implement changes accounting guidance.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a remote office environment.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the administrative aspects of middle management in a corporation including assisting in setting and communicating goals, delegating, providing feedback to employees, handling employee issues, providing employee recognition.
  • Business partner mentality with ability to educate basic financial concepts to stakeholders.
  • Ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects successfully while maintaining an even-keel approach and commitment to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated success in consulting effectively with all levels of management including executives.
  • Ability to conduct and interpret quantitative/qualitative analysis with the proven ability to communicate complex financial concepts and data in an understandable manner to all levels of management and staff.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Oracle, GL Wand, Smartview, PBCS or SAP S4/Hana a plus.
