This is an extremely rare opportunity for a dynamic, and experienced professional with energy and drive to be Head of Function for a shared legal and compliance service serving two distinct and related INEOS businesses:

INEOS Trading & Shipping trades almost 10 million tonnes of physical feedstock every year; INEOS Energy has ambitious plans to undertakes worldwide physical and financial trading of various energy commodities including gas, power, LNG, crude, hydrogen and CO2 and renewable/sustainability products.

Reporting to the CEOs of INEOS Trading & Shipping and INEOS Energy Trading, this is a senior leadership role; you will work on a day-to-day basis with managers of both businesses, as well as senior stakeholders and managers across the INEOS Group.

You will deal not only with the daily dynamics of energy and commodities trading markets, but also a global but fragmented legal and regulatory environment with constant changes.

The principal support will be to provide strategic legal and compliance-related support for the Commercial Directors and Function Heads for both IT&S and IET. The Legal and Compliance function is a highly respected, valued, and vital part of the decision-making processes for both businesses. You will advise on key strategies and projects related to the businesses’ competitiveness, opportunities, and challenges.

In keeping with INEOS culture, the team is lean relative to the size of commercial activity it supports. The role will involve drafting, reviewing, and negotiating high-value project, trading, financing, and infrastructure agreements (including coordinating with external legal resources as needed on large deals) as well as advising on key compliance-related regulations and issues, such as sanctions, KYC/Counterparty Due Diligence, REMIT, MIFID II, FinfraG, Dodd Frank, EMIR and MAD/MAR. Previous experience of CoSec duties would also be helpful.

You will drive an active, thoughtful, and practical compliance culture with focus on initiatives to strengthen the control environment.

You will be a point of contact for Regulators (eg: OFGEM, FCA, CFTC), auditors, brokers and exchanges as regards compliance matters, reviews, questionnaires, and requests for information.

You will supervise and manage compliance-monitoring solutions (eg: monitoring communications, dealing with STORs, INEOS Group training platform) for both businesses.

You will be a key focal point for sharing knowledge and updates relevant to the sectors that the businesses operate in by producing or procuring know-how and training that non-compliance professionals can readily understand.

You will also assist other INEOS businesses and projects with specialist knowledge and expertise as relevant.

You will supervise and manage your team in achieving all the above and ensure that team members are given appropriate opportunities for professional development, and to broaden and enhance their skillset.

The role will involve some international travel.

Qualifications and Technical skills

  • Legally trained and qualified, 7+ PQE.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Previous experience of shipping, terminals, commodities, and energy trading (physical and financial).
  • Some experience of the following: drafting and implementing compliance related processes to do with: sanctions, MIFID II, REMIT, EMIR, FinfraG, Dodd Frank and MAD/MAR, Cosec duties, KYC/Counterparty Due Diligence.
  • Previous in-house experience preferable
  • Good existing relationships with external law firms in energy/commodities and shipping preferable.
