The NIAA is looking for an experienced and inspiring leader with well-developed organisational Information and Communications Technology (ICT) management skills to join the NIAA as our Chief Information Officer (CIO). This SES Band 1 officer leads the ICT, Data and Systems Branch which oversees the implementation of ICT and data strategies and functions required to support the Agency’s operations. Priorities include system databases and data management, content management systems, open access and digital resources for the organisation.

You will be responsible for leading the delivery of ICT and data commitments including the NIAA record management system, data management solutions, reporting solutions, supporting the grants lifecycle, continual improvement and NIAA information technology priorities. Key to overseeing the Agency’s ICT function is the management of the shared services ICT arrangements and relationships to ensure the ICT services the Agency is receiving continually meet the Agency’s requirements. The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet provides ICT services to the NIAA through a shared services arrangement.

  • Provide high level strategic leadership, management, advice and guidance across a diverse range of ICT and data systems and services.
  • Manage the provision of ICT and data services and projects by NIAA staff, contracted service providers, and shared services to provide a seamless, high performing service to all users.
  • Provide high quality specialist advice on ICT strategy, data strategy, ICT solutions, operations, and governance.
  • Manage organisational ICT and data risks and ensure governance frameworks and reporting systems are in place to deliver ICT and data services and projects within budget, on-time and are governed in an appropriate manner.
  • Ensure the effective performance of all agency ICT and data services in an environment of continued transformation.
  • Leading the implementation of the NIAA One Network project through to completion in April 2024.
  • Oversee the collection, storage, management, quality, and protection of data.
  • Implement data privacy policies and comply with data protection regulations.
  • Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to deliver ICT and data solutions that efficiently and effectively enhance agency capability.
  • Ensure compliance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct and other APS and NIAA policies including security, privacy, accessibility, grants and procurement.

You will be an energetic leader with excellent analytical skills, and have a record of working on complex ICT and data issues and governance. Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills in communicating and managing relationships between technology assets and business operations.

You will need the ability to think strategically, provide leadership support, and forward-looking with strong personal drive and integrity. You will have demonstrated experience in implementing IT strategies and operations.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the NIAA is safe from online threats and develop and implement strategies that target the growing importance on online communications in an ever changing environment. Additionally, you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely data and reporting.

You will have demonstrated commitment to and practice of values based leadership that inspires, empowers, and drives positive change. You will have experience in leading teams in developing innovative strategies and approaches, and will play a key role in the Data and Information Stream of the NIAA’s transformation program, Galambany.
