Accountable to the Senior Vice President, FP&A, this role advances Novant Health’s strategic goals and objectives, including growth, expansion, diversification, and new capability development, by supporting M&A, Strategic Investments, and Financial Planning, Analysis, and Reporting on behalf of NHE. The VP, whose activities compliment and align with Novant Health and NHE’s broader corporate development strategies and objectives, influences and supports the development of NHE’s strategic priorities and works closely with Novant Health and NHE leadership to assemble, develop, and retain the appropriate resources to execute on the company’s strategic plans.
Essential Functions
- Accountable to the SVP of FP&A and other senior leaders serving as a strategic thought partner to ensure successful execution of growth initiatives that advance the organization’s strategic objectives
M&A
- Support all phases of the transaction process, including target identification, evaluation, and execution
- Implement or refine, as the case may be, processes and best practices to enhance the organization’s programmatic M&A capabilities, prioritizing effectiveness, speed, and scalability
- Monitor pipeline of M&A opportunities and cultivate network of external advisors, investment partners, and capital providers
- Partner with internal stakeholders to align M&A pipeline and priorities with the organization’s strategies, opportunities, capability gaps, and vulnerabilities, and leverage internal subject matter expertise for business and operational due diligence and synergy assessment
- Support pre- and post-closing transition planning / coordination
- Clear and concise communication of the transaction’s strategic rationale, benefits, risks, and considerations, as well as the underlying quantitative analysis, to NHE Senior Leadership
- Manages confidential and strategic projects/initiatives that are of time-sensitive importance.
- Drives results on strategic initiatives and special projects that reinforce the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities
- Ability to think upstream and downstream in an effort to optimize the bigger strategic picture
Novant Health Ventures & Other Strategic Investments
- Support all phases of the investment process, including thesis development, deal sourcing, evaluation, and execution
- Responsible for monitoring company-specific and portfolio performance and escalating issues to NHE or Novant Health leaders as necessary
- Partner with internal stakeholders to cultivate relationships with prospective investment targets, leverage internal subject matter expertise for business and operational due diligence and synergy assessment, and support operational implementation, if applicable
- Continued development of investment theses, informed by Novant Health’s competitive advantages, NHE’s strategic growth objectives, general industry developments and recent technological advancements, and rigorous underlying market analysis
- Implement or refine, as the case may be, processes and best practices to enhance NHV’s capabilities, brand awareness, and competitive market position
- Serve as a Novant Health ambassador when building relationships with prospective investment and operating partners
- Clear and concise communication of an investment’s strategic rationale, benefits, risks, and considerations, as well as the underlying quantitative analysis, to the Novant Health Ventures Investment Committee
NHE Financial Planning, Analysis, & Reporting
- Lead financial analyses in support of NHE growth initiatives
- Support NHE’s budgeting, forecasting, performance monitoring, financial reporting, and risk management processes, in partnership with NHE leaders and Novant Health’s Finance Department
- Implement or refine, as the case may be, best practices, processes, and/or tools to enhance the precision, rigor, and utility of the forecasting, budgeting, monitoring, and reporting functions
- Support NHE forecast processes, resulting in increased visibility and a clearer understanding of business trends and outlooks
- Partner with Novant Health finance and accounting teams, as needed, during the monthly- and year-end close process
- Support the management of shared services financial accounting between Novant Health and NHE
Team Leadership and Development
- Responsible for hiring, training, and leading direct report team members that support the execution of projects and initiatives
- Assist in the continuous development of a high-performing, purpose-built team comprised of individuals who bring new perspectives, capabilities, and diverse experiences
- Mentor, train, develop and oversee members of the team

- Education: 4 Year / Bachelor’s Degree, required. Graduate degree, preferred.
- Experience: 5 Years experience M&A, capital planning, and/or alternative asset management experience, preferably at an investment banking, private equity, or corporate development / strategic finance role focused on healthcare services, required.

- General knowledge of healthcare environment as it relates to physicians, medical group practice, hospitals, ancillary services and insurance/managed care.
- Ability to create, develop and structure data in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated networking, delegation and diplomacy skills.
- Must be able to negotiate with, handle conflict, and influence senior leaders.
- Proven track record of handling matters with the utmost discretion.
- Resilient and able to work in an atmosphere of high pressure, high expectations & shifting priorities.
