The Director of Shared Services is a full-time position with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust leading the Shared Services department.

Shared Services’ longevity and success is recognized nationally by performing arts centers and other institutions. These cooperative efforts save a minimum of $1 million annually for the participating organizations, enhance their top lines, contribute significantly to the growth of Cultural District audiences and foster productive and rewarding collegiality among the organizations’ leadership and staff. Shared Services helped to steer the organizations through the pandemic to successful re-openings by helping organizations remain connected during difficult times, developing joint approaches to audience and artists’ health and safety protocols and audience communication.

Keys to the cooperative’s success are consensus-driven decision-making, the dedication of the organizations’ administrative leaders to participate personally, and agreement to support projects through annual dues and a patron-paid ticket fee on each ticket sold in the Cultural District. The cooperative operates via committees comprised of the organizations’ chief executives, finance directors, marketing leads, and human resource directors that meet monthly to plan and implement projects. An important operating principle is that projects are adopted by Shared Services only if all organizations agree to participate, resulting in a focused set of activities that have benefits for all. With the participation of the organizations’ leadership and committees, the Director will research and develop new projects and initiatives to optimize and innovate along shared organizational priorities.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional written and oral communication skills along with proven leadership skills as a congenial and persuasive consensus builder. This individual should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a nonprofit organization at a manager level or above and prior experience with budget management and financial reporting to key stakeholders. Knowledge of arts marketing and sales initiatives is vital to success in this role. Bachelor’s degree required along with the outstanding problem-solving skills and the ability to manage ambiguity.
