The Lean Sigma Director will be responsible for building site level goals and the execution of plans in support of the Manufacturing Focus Factories and other shared service organizations within the plant structure. Close working relationships and consensus building are required with all other Site management staff (FF Managers, Finance, Quality). Responsible for the coordination of processes and resources in cross-functional, operations activities within the North Haven site.
You will manage the Operational Excellence function for the North Haven Operating Site within Surgical Innovations, deploying the Medtronic Performance Systems structure to meet North Haven Manufacturing site’s short and long term goals for improved quality performance, increased service levels, reduced Cost of Goods Sold, improved operational efficiency and EHS performance exceeding goals. This role supports ~$500MM cost of production which delivers ~$2.0B of revenue @ ~75% gross margin.
- Partner with Site Leadership Team to manage short- & long-term vision and execution plans for the Operational Excellence function at the North Haven Operations Site.
- In partnership with the Surgical Innovations OpEx team, manage Operational Excellence programs and initiatives at the site for short- and long-term goal achievement, assuring culture and systems development in support of continuous improvement in cost and quality performance.
- Establish and maintain a site-wide culture of continuous improvement and Operations excellence including Site Leadership level strategy deployment, tiered communications, and related operating mechanisms.
- Lead site-wide cost reduction program targeted at reducing operational costs by 5-7% yearly (~$30M).
- Coach, educate, and build organizational capabilities as defined within the Medtronic Performance System global operational excellence program.
- Manage Lean Sigma Training & Certification Programs site-wide and assure resources are leveraged for site continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure OpEx employees and efforts fully support Quality and Safety efforts site-wide assuring achievement of site/SI level goals and continuous improvement driving “best in class” results.
- Attract, develop and retain a high-performance technical staff.
- Coach, motivate and foster professional development of direct reports
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree required
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience
Nice to Have
- Master’s Degree in related field of study
- OpEx/Lean Six Sigma/PMI certifications
- Certified Black Belt or Master Black Belt strongly preferred
- Process improvement and cost savings success
- Previous experience in manufacturing industry, regulated environment a plus
- Solid understanding of Engineering, Project Management, Lean Principles, Six Sigma, Financial acumen
- Ability to manage cross functionally with direct and indirect influence
- Ability to coach and facilitate individually and at the large-scale level
- Advanced skills in statistical software packages
