This position reports to the Vice President, Accounting Operations and is responsible, directly or indirectly, for the core operational accounting functions of the Accounting, Reporting and Compliance (ARC) team. This role will be responsible for accounting for salaries and benefits, as well as general areas of accounting within the shared services accounting environment. This position will interact frequently with key accounting managers in each business unit to ensure the quality, integrity, timeliness and material accuracy of financial statements and forecasts. You will have primary supervision of the external ARC team.

  • Directs the full accounting cycle for assigned areas, including payroll and benefits accounting, general areas of accounting, and all related procedures and controls for ARC-supported business units.
  • Key member of the ARC management team, the FSS ELT and the Corporate Finance Department.
  • Responsible for monthly and quarterly closing processes for accounting activities in assigned areas; support business units to produce accurate, complete and timely financial statements.
  • Maintains key relationships with assigned process owners of the outsourced service provider and provides primary oversight of accounting work in assigned area.
  • Establishes relationships with controllers and other key financial managers in each business unit. Well versed in technical accounting and ensure all accounting operations are performed according to standards.
  • Responsible for certain accounting integration activities for acquisitions as well as disposal activities.
  • Responsible for collaborating and coordinating with various FP&A teams to ensure forecasts are well-informed of accounting-related issues and are materially accurate and reliable.
  • Design and maintain internal controls and documentation to effectively manage financial risks.
  • Collaborate and strengthen relationships with leaders of cross-functional corporate teams and business units to ensure effective reporting processes at McKesson.
  • Lead a geographically diverse team including virtual (outsourced) members based in India.
  • Support transformation, which includes centralizing accounting within the shared services accounting team, outsourcing accounting and automation where appropriate, as well as contributing to continuous process improvement in focusing on value-added activities and leveraging technology to increase efficiency and automation.
  • Implement process, system and internal control changes to ensure monthly close processes are updated to account for the impacts of mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, adoption of new accounting standards, transformations and other changes.
  • Actively support and develop department team members and create an environment that encourages openness to transformation.
  • Manage quarterly reviews and annual audits with external auditors in relevant areas, providing schedules, information and other requests as required.
  • Support and/or lead ad hoc projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Maintain appropriate communications with all levels of the organization.

Qualifications Requirements

  • Minimum 13+ years of experience in accounting and reporting.
  • 6+ years of experience in diverse leadership, team organization and people motivation skills.

Essential skills

  • Hands-on experience leading change and process transformation in a shared services environment of a large, complex, publicly traded company. Experience in auditing or accounting consulting with a Big-4 firm is preferred.
  • CPA certification required.
  • Experience leading large, diverse teams in a global Fortune 100 company.
  • Experience working with a global outsourced service provider is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present to senior management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong partnerships with all aspects of the organization to develop and execute plans, drawing on diverse teams within the organization.
  • Excellent skills in team building, strategic problem solving, project and resource management, as well as analytical and design thinking.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and internal control environments.
  • The incumbent of this position will have to support internal and/or external clients outside of Quebec and/or in the United States on a daily basis. Therefore, this position requires fluency in written and spoken English. Please note that the number of positions whose tasks require knowledge of the English language has been restricted where possible.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting required. Advanced degree in accounting or finance preferred.
