The Director, Finance Shared Service Operations leads the architecture, development, governance, KPIs and service delivery for all Finance Shared Service functions. In collaboration with Global Process Owners, ensure the documentation, training, on-boarding and employee engagement are operationally sound to ensure the day-to-day operations and SLAs supported. The Director, Finance Shared Service Operations oversees the day-to-day operations of these functions while pursuing continuous process improvement and the setting the strategic path forward. The role collaborates across all Finance functions to ensure business continuity and resiliency as significant percentage of Finance work is centered in the Shared Service team.
- Monitor and manage the performance and efficiency of the Finance functions through the preparation and publication of monthly KPIs, ensuring regular review and initiating process change to standardize, improve performance and efficiency related to cash application, collections, dispute management, and credit risk management.
- Adopt an agenda and link with stakeholders to drive process improvement, systems development, standardization, and controls enhancement
- Lead talent development of the team through recruitment, training, coaching, project assignment, and empowerment
- Partner with Finance stakeholders to establish clarity and support on performance targets, key objectives, and performance management
- Leverage prior experience to identify, propose, and implement automated solutions and prioritize remediation of processes with the most risk and/or inefficiency
- Serve as change agent within the Finance organization in designing and implementing best/leading practices across Avalara
- Determine how to best implement functional requirements in existing financial systems architecture and recommend/build the business case for new tools that will enable us to support our rapidly scaling business
- Ensure that all policies and procedures are documented and reviewed at least annually with employees who interact within the Finance processes
- Keep the department intranet updated with current policy and procedural documentation
- Ensure international subsidiaries and acquired entities adopt practices consistent with global policies
- Assist with ad hoc projects and perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related area
- 5+ years of experience as a Finance Shared Service leader for a technology company
- Thorough understanding of Finance principles, processes, and procedures
- Experience in global Finance Shared Service within international operations across multi-currency and legal entities
- Service oriented with a collaboration approach toward problem solving and relationship building with stakeholders across the organizations to support high performance culture
- Strong people leader, self-motivator, driven and enthusiastic
- Prior experience implementing and managing automated Finance solutions
- Experience in effectively prioritizing multiple concurrent tasks and meeting strict deadlines
- Hands-on experience with at least one major ERP system – preferably NetSuite
- Familiarity with the application of internal controls
- Aptitude for identifying and implementing process and cost improvements
- Comfort operating in a highly flexible, dynamic, and entrepreneurial environment
- Proficient use of Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office applications
- Exceptional planning, organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form
