The Senior IT Manager will manage and direct the company’s information technology (IT) operations and infrastructure, ensuring the department provides efficient and effective technical support service.

This is an on-site position at Opentrons headquarters in Long Island City, NY. Occasional travel to other locations may be required.

Reports to: Chief Technology Officer

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Location: Innolabs – Long Island City (Queens) NY (with occasional travel)

  • Leads development and implementation policies, processes and best practices for the organization’s systems and IT department.
  • Develops and implements business continuity protocols to minimize disruption to business operations in the event of emergency situations or data loss.
  • Responsible for managing, hiring, supervising a team of IT employees and ensuring the team is providing prompt and quality service to all employees of the organization.
  • Overseeing and determining timeframes for major IT projects including system updates, upgrades, migrations and outages
  • Evaluates providers of IT services (vendors), negotiates contracts and deal with the vendor lifecycle
  • Establishes efficiency and efficacy standards, providing recommendations for improvement of IT infrastructure.
  • Analyzes IT infrastructure and systems performance to assess operating costs, productivity levels, upgrade requirements, and other metrics and needs.
  • Oversees security of systems, networks, and enterprise information.
  • Facilitates IT security audits or investigations.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with external IT vendors and service providers. Capable of negotiating contracts with external vendors.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Information Technology Department:
    • At least 10 years of experience working in IT departments
    • A strong foundation of maintaining the IT security & infrastructure for a mid-sized organization
    • Ability to assess the information provided by Help Desk in troubleshooting and determining source of problem; either software or hardware
    • Experience making strategic decisions to optimize the efficiency of IT operations and departmental processes
  • Software License Administratio
    • Manage and administer licenses for software and application services to ensure employee access (Google Workspace, JIRA, Slack, etc)
  • Hardware
    • Computer inventory management; laptops, keyboards, monitors and other basic accessories
  • A/V Equipment Management:
    • Understanding of Audio Visual setups for an office environment for conference rooms and onsite events
    • Oversee AV project delivery, operating AV equipment as needed
  • People Management:
    • At least 3 years of experience managing an IT team
    • Skilled in interpersonal relationships including clear communication skills, planning, organization and setting priorities
    • Ability to delegate responsibilities and grow the skill sets of their direct reports
    • Experience training and hiring for a growing team
  • Vendor Management:
    • Experience negotiating and signing large contracts within operating budgets
    • Ability to maintain relationships and strategic partnerships with vendors
  • Excellent communication skills, which allow for troubleshooting and problem solving via oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow up on multiple priorities simultaneously to accomplish all tasks without sacrificing quality.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, phone, and keyboard.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Ability to sit at a desk in front of a computer screen for an extended period.
  • Moderate noise (i.e., phone calls, online meetings, computer audio)
  • While onsite, physical effort may include exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Possible infrequent travel to other locations where Opentrons has a presence
