Our client, a prominent player in the paper mill industry with a global footprint, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Head of Shared Services (Senior Accountant) to join their finance team at their Fredericton, New Brunswick location. This is an exciting opportunity to become an integral part of a dynamic team in an industry that contributes significantly to the global economy.

Reporting to the Senior Corporate Controller, the Head of Shared Services leads vital financial functions including management reporting, variance analysis, budget control and ensuring compliance. They provide accurate insights for decisions, manage budgets, analyze performance gaps, and uphold standards, contributing to financial health and strategy.

  • In charge of overseeing Accounts Payable, payments, month-end closure including accruals, GL reconciliation , maintaining checks and controls, reviewing AP aging, and conducting monthly reporting.
  • In charge of supervising sales invoicing, collections, month-end closing (including accruals and reconciliation), maintaining checks and controls, managing AR aging, credit management, updating SAP with freight information, handling internal transfer pricing, managing supply contracts with internal companies, and conducting monthly reporting.
  • Tasked with examining and submitting Income Tax Returns, Excise tax, HST Returns, Non-Resident Returns, and all obligatory tax compliance documents. Making certain that withholding aligns with CRA requirements for non-resident vendors/suppliers. Providing assistance for any tax-related matters, including liaising with CRA and Revenue Quebec, among other responsibilities.
  • Tasked with creating consolidated Monthly/Quarterly/Annual Management Information Systems (MIS) and Statements of Accounts.
  • Evaluating corporate trial balance accounts and comparing variances against the budget
  • Timely completion of all Statscan surveys
  • Examining and aligning GL accounts linked to payroll
  • Collaborating with the Senior Corporate Controller on diverse accounting, tax, month-end tasks, and ad-hoc activities
  • Engaging with multiple stakeholders, including Logistics for sales invoicing, Customers and Vendors for reconciliation and collection, Controller/Financial, Analyst for month-end closure, Auditors for Reviews/checks and balances, Internal Audit and Statutory auditors.
  • Holds a degree in Business Administration. CPA or equivalent accounting qualifications.
  • Strong accounting principles and technical financial skills.
  • Brings 3-5 years of pertinent experience.
  • Demonstrates strong communication abilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Exhibits exceptional written and spoken communication skills.
  • Prior exposure to an ERP system, preferably SAP ERP, would be advantageous.
  • Shows a keen eye for detail.
  • Displays considerable drive, enthusiasm, and interest in a collaborative team setting.
  • Background in the manufacturing sector could be beneficial.
