The Vice President (VP) is the leader of the Corporate Information Services (CIS) team and is responsible for the planning, design, development and implementation of organizational information systems, software applications, and Information Services (IS) support and infrastructure systems. This role directs and manages the IS plans, schedules, policies and programs for the organization’s data processing, network communications, interfaces, business operations, computer services and management information systems, according to their established goals and objectives.
In this positionr, the VP of CIS serves as a leader on the executive management team. High-level tasks will include identifying emerging information technologies to be analyzed, assimilated, and integrated within the organization. This role also oversees the development of mission-critical applications and technology to support the company’s long-term goals, while providing direction and leadership to several highly technical teams.
The position is responsible for lead technology planning, driving the innovation and development of best practices throughout the organization, while governing control and ensuring objectives are achieved. Risk management, resource allocation, project prioritization, and research and recommendation of new systems and software products and services are some of the other critical job duties.
Data Governance and Cyber-Security responsibilities are two of the shared services this role directs for the entire corporation. The VP of CIS helps set the budget, staffing and overall strategic path for these governance initiatives, while providing guidance for the framework for global adherence and maturation throughout the organization.
Corporate IS Leadership
- Partners with Executive Senior Leadership to identify, recommend, develop, build, and implement cost-effective technology solutions for strategic and operational IS objectives regarding the overall success of systems, infrastructure architecture, data governance and cyber-security
- Leads, directs, and manages accountability for CIS resources with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with the strategic direction
- Develops and ensures enterprise IS architecture standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures for infrastructure, data interchange, applications, governance, and cyber-security are used in conjunction with the overall enterprise IS objectives
- Develop 1-3 year information services strategic plan that keeps the company current with appropriate IS technologies, resources, systems and tools to support company growth plans
- Improve company performance and effectiveness with a positive ROI based on costs and benefits; gain consensus of executive staff on direction and level of investment; update annually
- Coordinate with peers/business partners to develop and implement current year strategies with IS solutions
- Researches and recommends technology and business process solutions to transform the business and give the company competitive advantage in alignment with strategic direction
- Deliver all projects within the appropriate budget and timeframe
- Design and execute business plans and policies to ensure the optimization of human resources
- Evaluate existing IS tools, systems, and technologies and provide recommended changes
- Analyze business objectives and recommend IS related solutions and investments
- Keep the company up to date on emerging IS trends and be the advocate for implementing new technology that will improve company performance
- Ensure all software, hardware and other IS tools are at the appropriate level of upgrade to be effectively deployed to support efficient company activities
- Provide technical support services across the corporation
IS Department Leadership
- Oversee the strategy of the Corporate Information Services (CIS) department, to implement company-level continuous technological evolution, using data analytics, streamlining and integrating disparate systems, establishing core metrics/KPIs, and instituting development standards and best practices
- Lead and develop resources within the IS department, including recruiting and hiring qualified technical staff, mentoring, training, reviewing performance and communicating corporate policies and procedures for capacity and forecasting
- Create and manage the IS budget ensuring its alignment with the company needs and objectives and build effective partnership with 3rd party vendors and services providers to ensure cost effective business solutions
- Prepare department goals for both individuals and IS teams to ensure optimization of business and alignment with company strategy
- Monitor functions of the IS department and ensure compliance to work standards and constant adherence to customer service
- Coordinate with IS professionals and develop coaching programs to ensure an effective working environment
- Create career development guidance and structure for all CIS managers for continuing education improvement
- Provide a technologically based team, with a service attitude, to provide both immediate and long-term focus on customer service and improving corporate technology solutions
IS Security and Governance
- Work with corporate CISO to establish overall corporate risk portfolio and strategic direction
- Drive the development and implementation of a solid cybersecurity framework, by adhering to and adopting functions from the NIST framework
- Create, review, and update all corporate policies and procedures for data governance and cyber-security
- Create governance models, including staffing subcommittees and overall direction for the maturation and continued improvement for cyber-security and data services
- Ensure maximum uptime and stability of all company information reporting, communication systems, tools, computer systems, and networks
- Ensure proper hardware, software, and other backup and recovery capabilities are in place, functioning, and prepared for deployment as needed
- Ensure proper security of the company’s hardware, software, and information by prevention of unauthorized intrusion and inadvertent data breaches
- Develop proper asset management, onboarding/offboarding processes and application access protocols. This should include cyclical auditing of these procedures
- Ensure IS security protocols are in place and being followed in accordance with corporate policies
- Maintain playbooks for common types of attacks and breaches and train staff by using scenario-based walkthroughs, including standing up ICCs and restoring systems

Qualifications:
Education/Licensure/Certifications/Experience:
- 15+ years of progressive IS experience in growth-oriented, mid-market, multi-site organizations that utilize large-scale EHR and associated healthcare systems and data interfaces
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience directly leading IS projects, application/software development teams, evaluation, and implementation of new hardware and software systems
- A proven track record as a strategic thinker, visionary, thought leader, influencer, and change agent/change manager, with a strategic consulting approach and related skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop key internal and external business partnerships and peer-to-peer relationships
- Broad IS expertise across various disciplines, including systems development, hardware, and software, network and communication infrastructure, system evaluation and selection, cybersecurity, change management, etc.
- The ability to work effectively with ambiguity and create solutions to complex problems with a strong results orientation
- Experience leading and developing teams with strong ability to recognize, hire, develop, motivate, and retain high performing staff
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to influence, build consensus, and negotiate both internally and externally, capable of Board-level communications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technology or business field is required; an advanced degree, particularly an MBA, is preferred
- Valid Indiana driver’s license and access to own vehicle for in-county travel strongly preferred
