We value flexibility, this role can be performed at any of the AER offices located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, or Sydney and are available on a full-time, part-time or job-share basis.

The General Manager, Corporate provides strategic oversight and leadership of the AER’s corporate functions including People & Culture, Finance & Procurement, Data Governance & IT projects, and the Executive Office. The General Manager will have a leading role in the AER’s legal separation from the ACCC and the transition of the AER to a standalone legal entity with its own accountable authority and head of agency requirements. In the short term, the GM will lead negotiations with the ACCC to facilitate legal separation. Longer term, the GM will manage the ongoing shared services arrangements with the shared-services provider, as well as embed and establish mechanisms to continuously improve the delivery of corporate functions to the AER.
The General Manager will:
- provide strategic advice and assurance to the AER Board, Senior Leadership Team and governance committees
- establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including the AER Board, Senior Leadership Team, the ACCC, Department of Finance, AER management, staff and staff representatives
- lead negotiations with ACCC for the transfer of relevant corporate functions and responsibilities to the AER or ashared service provider
- establish the financial management and procurement functions, and shared services arrangements for identified corporate services
- develop and implement corporate capability, systems, policies, practices and documentation. This includes leading secretariat support and, potentially, the negotiation of an AER-specific Enterprise Agreement (if required).
- established, purchased and managed shared services arrangements, with significant experience in corporate services, especially financial management, governance, and compliance
- ensured governance and compliance across various domains, complex corporate projects (i.e., finance, purchasing, corporate reporting, and data/IT projects)
- demonstrated capability to operate within the requirements of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA)
- strong ability to think strategically, including navigating through rules and complexity to achieve desired outcomes, developing strategies, building organisational capabilities, and successfully manage complex and changing landscapes
- lead and managed significant changes, engaged stakeholders productively, and demonstrated resilience and adaptability during crisis situations.
- enhanced the performance of a small, standalone organisation, with a high degree of emotional intelligence, and have the ability to work effectively in dynamic environments.
