The Director of Project Control is responsible for overseeing all the financial aspects of projects in the Sales to Cash life cycle. This role ensures accurate project budgeting, cost tracking including time and expenses, invoice validation and reporting, supporting project managers in delivering projects on time and within budget. The Director of Project Control plays a crucial oversight role in maintaining project financial health, optimizing resource allocation, and delivering quality reporting and invoicing to clients. This position would report directly to the VP of Finance Operations in shared services and have direct oversight of all ongoing financial support activities in our Operations groups including engagement managers and project coordinators, as well as work very closely with shared services groups such as Contracts, Timekeeping and Billing.
- Establish and modify standard templates to support project managers develop accurate project budgets and forecasts. Monitor budget performance throughout the project lifecycle and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Develop processes and monitoring of project expenses, labor costs, and resource utilization to identify cost overruns or deviations from the budget and work with project teams to address them.
- Generate and distribute comprehensive project financial reports to stakeholders. Communicate project financial status, risks, and opportunities clearly and accurately.
- Analyze differences between actual project costs and budgeted amounts. Provide insights into the causes of variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Identify financial risks associated with projects and work with project managers to mitigate these risks. Monitor project-related financial compliance and adherence to company policies.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to project financials, such as return on investment (ROI) and cost-to-completion ratios.
- Continuously assess and improve project financial management processes. Implement automation and best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Collect, interpret, and analyze financial data to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies. Utilize advanced data analysis techniques to extract meaningful insights from large datasets.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data by performing regular audits, reconciliations, and validations. Identify discrepancies and work collaboratively with the finance team to resolve issues.
- Generate regular and ad-hoc financial reports, dashboards, and visualizations to provide stakeholders with clear insights into financial performance. Create actionable recommendations based on analysis results.
- Identify opportunities to streamline data collection, reporting, and analysis processes. Develop and implement enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Build and maintain financial models to project future financial outcomes based on historical data and assumptions. Support budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including finance, operations, and IT to ensure alignment of financial data and reporting practices. Provide support during audits and compliance assessments.
- Leverage accounting and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Tableau, Power BI) to extract, transform, and visualize financial data effectively.
- Stay updated with relevant accounting standards and regulations to ensure financial data accuracy and compliance. Provide recommendations for process adjustments as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting. Masters degree or relevant certification is a plus.
- 10+ years’ experience in project control
- 5+ years’ experience in leadership (direct and/or cross functional project)
- Strong understanding of project management principles and financial concepts.
- Proficiency in financial analysis and reporting tools.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with project managers, teams, and stakeholders.
- Problem-solving skills to address financial challenges and recommend solutions.
- Experience with project management software and ERP systems.
