The Director, Product Management is the functional and people leader of the product management team. As a functional leader, the Director has general management responsibility for the HR technology product portfolio’s annual roadmap strategy and prioritization protocol. This includes, in partnership with the HR Leadership Team and HR technology, to refresh the annual HR Product Strategy to be in alignment with the HR Strategy. The HR product strategy includes an overall product vision and detailed product roadmaps across the entirety of the HR product portfolio.

This critical leadership role sits on the Employee Experience leadership team, has people leadership responsibilities for product management, and interacts with senior HR and business executives and the HR technology. The leader will forge partnerships within HR Talent Solutions and Leadership, and Total Rewards to understand and empower the needs of the organization. The team will partner with other key stakeholders including Compliance, Risk, Schwab Technology Services (STS), Vendor Management, Legal, Finance, etc.

  • Define and communicate strategic objectives, prioritization principles and philosophy for HR products; leads development of HR product or HR portfolio roadmap and a 3+ year-product strategy, builds a compelling vision for transformative technology solutions to meet HR strategic objectives of employee experience, talent, and risk mitigation influences and gains alignment on roadmap across stakeholders and internal partners/groups. Works with stakeholders and other leaders to synchronize work, make prioritization/trade-off decisions for team capacity planning, and agree on goals, priorities and dependencies. Has responsibility for HR Product Owners in the Agile framework.
  • Evaluate strategic, tactical and risk management impacts of alternative trade-off decisions in the context of our product vision, goals and strategy, proposing sound, well-supported, fact-based recommendations to leadership.
  • Interact with the business and technology leaders across Schwab. This role requires significant cross-organization leadership and management to understand business needs and ensure product success across multiple user experience platforms. Ability to influence in a matrixed environment is essential.
  • Partner with the business to develop and ensure a common understanding of the product vision, roadmap and requirements with keen focus on strategic objectives and outcomes.
  • Drive stakeholder and organizational alignment and agreement on product priorities, trade-off decisions and investment. Provide critical business direction, guidance and decisions to product development and delivery teams.
  • Stay current with industry and functional trends and leverage these insights to develop appropriate HR solutions.
  • In partnership with STS, deliver solutions on-time, within budget and high quality to meet the product vision and roadmap.
  • Attract top talent and build a team with demonstrated competencies and capabilities; take responsibility for one’s own and team’s performance by setting clear goals and expectations and provide specific performance feedback; develop individual and team capability and coach others to optimal performance; empower individuals to make decisions and take action; promote new possibilities and lead others to deliver outstanding results; recognize development efforts, improvements and successes.
  • Lead a team of HRIS professionals including career planning and development, performance management, succession planning, and leading the team’s goals, actions and outcomes to support an engaged workforce.
  • Ensure HR product solutions meet Compliance requirements in partnership with Compliance, Security and Audit.
  • 10+ years of HR product management and solutions experience in an environment with significant transformation and business complexity.
  • A strong blend of experience in technology people leadership and product ownership in an Agile environment.
  • Demonstrable history of leading successful transformation and new product integration including HR solutions, data warehousing, business intelligence, and analytical solutions.
  • Able to influence transformative change across the HR operating model by envisioning an enabling HR technology product set that would meet or exceed HR business objectives.
  • Manage a dynamic portfolio of initiatives and project activities that drive HR innovation and transformation opportunities. Expert at structuring and delegating the required work. Able to motivate and drive efficiency from the team.
  • Exceptionally clear communicator, strong writer, and innovative thinker who can transform conceptual ideas and initiatives into practical and easily executable plans.
  • Excellent judgment, decision-making, and analytical skills. Strong planning and execution skills.
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills including identification and execution of key analyses, ability to synthesize and present compelling recommendations.
  • Experienced in building and managing high performing product teams, including hiring, talent development, coaching, and performance management.
  • Familiarity with technology governance processes understanding how to engage and influence HR Technology strategy, solutions, decisions and outcomes.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with HCM cloud products (Workday, iCIMs, ServiceNow, Sumtotal – LMS, Edcast – LXP, and Acquia – CMS) and how to use them to optimize HR processes and transform employee experience.
  • Expertise managing vendors and cloud-based application support processes.
  • Undergraduate degree in HRIS, HR or Business Management or equivalent is required.
