The Director of Research Support Services (DRSS) plays an integral role in the evolution of BMC’s research program as it pertains to our centralized research services. The DRSS will provide strategic input, coordination, supervision and operational oversight, and fiscal responsibility for all of BMC’s shared research Cores and Platforms including Shared Services that support research. The DRSS will be a strategic thought leader and a trusted advisor to Research Operations teams as well as research faculty and will devise a centralized support services strategy to support the advancement of BMC’s research mission.
- Develop a process to track core utilization and financial optimization. Conduct benchmarking analysis with peer institutions.
- Provide assistance in the development of the business planning process, including budgeting, if applicable. Implement best practices for core/platform management; monitor and identify areas of opportunity.
- Support peer reviews, rate methodology, and financial projections, ensuring Cores and Shared Platforms have business plans.
- Review policies and draft new institutional policies taking into consideration federal regulations applicable to Core Facilities, ensuring operational compliance. Support external audits and/or compliance reviews that relate to BMC Core Facilities.
Advisory
- Advise the space committee about the physical space requirements for institutional shared research cores.
- Advise the Executive Team and Faculty regarding administrative appropriateness and value of current/new Cores and Shared Platforms.
Financial Oversight
- Lead the development of financial reporting for core directors and BMC research leadership for fiscal monitoring.
- Collaborate with Sponsored Programs Finance Administration Team and advise the Core Directors in creating long and short-term business plans and yearly budgets.
- Provide accounting support for processing internal and external invoices ensuring timely payment.
- Develop annual budgets for BMC subsidy commitments for approval by Research leadership, and provide on-going monitoring of committed subsidies
- Report on individual core performances; investigate and provide resolution options to remedy variances from expected to actual business and performance indicators.
- Perform shared services cost analysis.
Communications Oversight
- Develop and disseminate communication around BMC core/platform capabilities, pricing and availability.
- Present programmatic and financial data analysis on core performance to Research Operations Executive Director.
- In partnership with communications, create a communication plan that builds awareness of BMC cores/platform capabilities.
Human Resources/Supervisory Oversight
- Meet with Core Directors and faculty advisors regularly to ensure maximum optimization.
- Work effectively with the Executive Team, the BMC research faculty and technical staff within each Core.
- Lead cross-functional partner teams to ensure that joint objectives are met, and efforts are aligned.
- Support Core Directors and help liaise personnel-related matters.

EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 10 years of management experience or financial experience in a healthcare research environment.
- Experience in management, program development and financial analysis
- Experience with technical applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel), word processing (e.g., Microsoft Word), and presentation software (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint) Vizio, Project Management tools.
