Reporting to the Head of Actuarial Services, MBPS, the Actuarial Senior Director, Head of North America Valuation Shared Services, will be a key member of the MBPS Actuarial Leadership team with responsibility for directing the activities of 25+ staff across multiple service areas, as well as having technical accountability in the US Liability Modeling Team. The Actuary will oversee valuation activities, including modeling and reporting processes, across Canadian and US lines of business while providing actuarial advisory support and guidance to team leads and junior staff. The incumbent must possess the ability to work with people at all levels of the organization and manage often conflicting stakeholder priorities.
- Plays a key role as part of the MBPS Actuarial leadership team in the achievement of department projects and initiatives to drive process improvements and best practices.
- Provides relevant guidance to staff at all levels on actuarial concepts, modelling principles, financial reporting processes and technology.
- Builds relationships and establishes a high level of credibility with Actuarial management across the US and Canadian Segments, particularly Business Unit Valuation Actuaries, their teams, Chief Actuaries and GFA.
- Works with actuaries across IFRS and NAIC Valuation, Modeling, Experience Analysis and In force Management departments to understand data or model change requests and help prioritize the most important and time-sensitive needs of the collective group of stakeholders
- Works closely with key stakeholders to (1) generate quarterly liability cash flows and reserves on all accounting bases, (2) implement the model changes needed to support new products and basis changes, and (3) create the cash flows and reserves as needed for additional financial reporting including Embedded Value, FCT, Annual Plan and Annual Asset Adequacy Testing, while adhering to valuation model change management protocols
- Works with Group Finance Actuarial Systems Team (GFAST) and Global Actuarial Business Support (GABS) areas to coordinate change management cycles for the end-to-end actuarial VST system
- Participates in global modeling and valuation systems-related forums

What We Are Looking For
- Fellowship in a recognized international Actuarial professional body with 9+ years of experience
- Post-secondary education in Math/Computer Science, Actuarial Science or equivalent.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge regarding technical aspects of work; able to review data or results (financial or otherwise) for reasonability and identify root causes and drivers in the data being reviewed.
- Proficiency in Moody’s Axis and Risk Integrity would be an asset
- Knowledge of NAIC and IFRS17 reporting, as well as US products and history of financial reporting an asset
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently, particularly in the area of using sound, independent judgment, problem-solving and analytical skills.
