The Controller I, Corewell Health East will ensure the provision of financial services and management to enable Corewell Health to achieve its operational and strategic goals and initiatives. Serves as an advisor to the vice presidents and management responsible for the operations of the hospital/entities and as an extension of the Corewell Health financial team. Responsible for safeguarding the assets of Corewell Health through proper maintenance and monitoring of internal controls, financial operating systems and regulatory guidelines. Corewell Health operates in a shared service environment and many of the financial services and internal controls are supported in a centralized fashion. Works with Corewell Health shared services resources in order to ensure that the hospital/entities have adequate financial management support to achieve its goals.
- Manages, plans, and organizes the financial operations including revenue management, reimbursement, strategic planning, business prioritization and resource allocation, budgeting and analysis, financial and statistical reporting, benchmarking, cost accounting, controllership, and others as designated.
- Improves efficiency and appropriate revenue recognition, lowers costs, eliminates waste, creates value, and promotes best practices through financial leadership and operational partnership.
- Recommends appropriate measures to respond to projected economic trends and/or regulatory changes.
- Acts as a consultant and team member with the presidents, vice presidents, and management on financial matters proactively providing hands on leadership in all aspects that impact financial operations.
- Acts as a customer advocate and provides ongoing communication with customers, staff and team regarding customer, staff, management, quality care issues and hospital/entities goals.
- Works in conjunction with Corewell Health shared services including but not limited to reimbursement, revenue management, patient financial services, and supply chain departments in order to ensure that the hospital/entities have adequate financial management support and performance to achieve its goals.
- Coordinates the completion of annual hospital/entities cost reports, the filing of government required reports, tax returns and other financial information for associations and the general public, in conjunction with Corewell Health tax and reimbursement services.
- Required Bachelor’s Degree.
- Required Master’s Degree or post graduate business certification (CPA, MBA, etc.).
- 5 years of relevant experience health care financial leadership experience Preferred.
- Experience with third-party reimbursement, budgeting, health information management, and patient finance Preferred.
