The Amherst Group, LLC is seeking a self-motivated, driven, intellectually curious accounting or finance professional to join our Costa Rica operations as a Senior Accountant. This person is responsible for managing the general accounting functions of our offices in Costa Rica in coordination with a local accounting firm and the Amherst US finance and accounting teams. The role requires keeping the financial statements up to date monthly, making sure we are compliant with the Free Trade Zone Regime; and performing all activities and tasks required to maintain internal control for a transparent accounting department in Costa Rica.
- Coordinate with local accounting firm and US teams to have the financial statements up to date monthly
- Make sure we are compliant with the Free Trade Zone Regime at all times
- Help with quarterly and year-end financial statement audit activities and periodic corporate internal controls audit activities. Including local audits under the free trade zone regime
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Establish strategy and direction in alignment with strategic plans established by top management and executive leadership.
- Ensure people, systems, processes, procedures, and metrics are in place to meet both annual and long-term objectives.
- Build a vision for the accomplishment of objectives.
- Estimate, forecast, and anticipate trends to develop a budget for the organizational level.
- Monitor monthly budget vs. actual reports to ensure non-business justified over-runs are held to a minimum.
- Create and implement changes to business processes, systems, and organizational structure to improve efficiencies.
- Communicate information and policies from top management to lower management.
- Develop and/or implement systems to measure and report the effectiveness of functional plans and programs and the accomplishment of objectives. Reports to senior management.
- Build a culture focused on high performance, continuous improvement, and customer service that operates in partnership with business operations.
- Ensure open, respectful, and collaborative cross-departmental communication among direct reports, their departments, and the rest of the organization.
- Recommend improvements to senior management.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of best practices in shared services and free trade zone-related areas.
- Ability to interpret information to develop new methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of human resource planning and business administration.
- Ability to think strategically, synthesize the most complex business/financial data, and develop innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments and work well under pressure.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, lead, motivate, and influence others to support corporate goals and objectives.
- Working knowledge of employee relations to conduct and proactively deal with employee issues.
- Experience in high-growth companies and comfort working on a fast-paced team with changing priorities.
- Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or associated discipline required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Requires 3-5 years as Controller (5 years of experience in all accounting areas).
- Requires 5-7 years of experience in shared services and free trade zone regime-related functions.
- Experience being in charge of a local operation under the Free Trade Zone Regime
- Experience in real estate, preferably rental properties
- Proficiency with Yardi preferred
- Advanced English 85-90% B2+ or C1.
