We are looking for a strong and experienced Director of Finance who brings seniority. This is visible in independent and self-confident thinking and communicating a clear vision in the field of Finance. Someone who helps give direction to the changing context and offers certainty. And who focuses on the result and also guides and involves others in this. This is because the assignment is twofold: both ‘running the business’ and at the same time ‘changing the business’. We are therefore looking for someone who wants to build on what has been achieved, who brings and maintains balance in agendas, who advises stakeholders and brings employees along.

Purpose of the position

  • Responsible for developing and drafting policies at institutional level for the financial discipline
  • Responsible for the implementation and execution of the policy within the Finance department
  • Responsible for managing the Finance management (organization, processes and people)

Content of the function

  • Management duties
  • Fulfilling responsibilities and authorities associated with the management position. Responsible for finance and control (treasury, taxes, subsidies, insurance, risk management, administration, business and finance control) and procurement
  • Supporting and advising the Executive Board and the Supervisory Board
  • Representing the Finance department in consultation structures within and outside the TU Delft organization
  • Policy
  • Making policy proposals to the Executive Board
  • Proactive advice on the impact of policy intentions
  • Contributing to the development of financial and business economics policy and purchasing policy
  • Developing and implementing internal policy within the Finance department. This includes continuing the implementation of the multi-year plan/transition plan
  • Control
  • Responsible for the daily financial management and operational services to the organizational units
  • Organization
  • Managing the Finance department. The Finance department consists of approximately 195 FTEs
  • Leading the Management Team, consisting of 8 people. Act as a sparring partner for the MT members of the Finance department
  • Cooperation
  • Contribute to the connection with the other organizational units
  • Organizing and contributing to joint initiatives and themes

General

  • Academic level of education in business economics or finance
  • Multi-year experience in high-end organizations with professionals and complex stakeholder relationships is a ‘need to have’. Experience in professional organizations in the public domain, preferably in a university, research or educational organization is ‘nice to have’
  • An excellent oral and written command of the Dutch and English language

Professional knowledge

  • Broad experience in the financial and business economics field
  • Vision of the future of the Finance department – ​​digital and automated

Lead

  • Experience as Finance Director, operating in a team with other disciplines
  • Experience with leadership where core values ​​such as diversity, integrity, respect, commitment, courage, trust are important pillars
  • Experience in leading managers, including coaching the second echelon of managers within the board

Strategic thinking and realization power

  • Experience in advising the various administrative echelons of the organization
  • Able to provide authoritative and substantive advice and operate at a strategic level
  • Experience in translating strategy into policy and ensuring implementation and execution

Connect

  • Experience working with a variety of professionals, enthusing, inspiring and empowering these professionals
  • Experience with maintaining and utilizing internal (and external) networks
