Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer and Corporate Controller, this position is responsible for all corporate accounting, asset and project accounting, lease accounting, revenue billing, accounts payable, travel and expense, billing, and master data management activities for CVR Energy and subsidiaries. This individual will lead and ensure the timely and accurate execution of accounting and business activities related to this department.
This individual is expected to mentor, coach, develop and create a positive team dynamic and foster collaboration cross-functionally as well as serve as the lead for cross-functional activities associated with the accounting function’s operational accounting teams and SEC reporting groups.
This individual will be expected to have complete functional and technical knowledge of Corporate Accounting and Shared Services accounting processes and systems within his/her area of responsibility, ensure SOX compliance across all activities within his/her area of responsibility, be a subject matter expert and lead team in projects/testing for projects related to departments, and have excellent communication skills to drive strong relationships with treasury, human resources, internal reporting, tax, operations, IT, internal and external auditors and executive teams. This individual will be expected to be a thought leader in relation to accounting processes, systems and technical matters by his/her staff, peers, the Chief Accounting Officer, and the Chief Financial Officer.
Oversight of, and direct involvement in, the Corporate and Shared Services accounting functions for CVR Energy and its subsidiaries which includes:
- Manage timely and accurate completion of general ledger accounting activities associated with the Company’s corporate operations, overseeing of centralized accounting activities, for prepaids, debt, equity, cash reconciliations, SG&A accruals, activities associated with compensation accounting and overall calculations and governance of accounting of costs associated with various incentive compensation plans and awards, corporate cost allocations and intercompany activity.
- Manage accounting for project accounting and long-lived assets across the Company including impairment assessments. Long-lived assets include fixed assets, right-of-use lease assets accounted for under ASC 842, and intangible assets. Establish and maintain standardized accounting procedures for the timely and accurate recognition of capital assets across the Company in accordance US GAAP and internal policies and responsible for all lease asset and liability accounting under ASC 842 within the Company’s lease software and the general ledger.
- Oversee the timely and accurate recognition of costs incurred on capital and expense projects incurred in accordance with US GAAP and internal Company policies, record monthly project accruals, ensure capital projects are in-serviced timely and ensure AFE’s are closed timely. This includes collaboration between team and various project managers and project team throughout the course of the projects.
- Manage accounting, transactions and all business processes related to Accounts Payable, Travel & Expense, and Master Data Management. Establish and ensure Service Level Agreements, Company policies and controls are adhered to. Lead department in process improvements aimed at establishing efficiency and high level of accuracy and customer service.

- Develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with cross-functional teams in operations, finance, projects, human resources, treasury, external and internal auditors to meet objectives and clearly communicate to all stakeholders.
- Ensure department has appropriately performed monthly account reconciliations and analytical variance analysis based on close calendar to ensure financials are accurately and fairly presented.
- Ensure the development of schedules and related support for external reporting needs is accurately and timely.
- Maintain and develop documentation related to department policy and procedures.
- Assist internal and external auditors for the purpose of providing supporting documentation and/or information related to areas of responsibility.
- Compliance and adherence to controls for SOX 404, including being a significant control and process owner. Ensure that individuals in the business are developed and understand their responsibilities under SOX 404.
- Lead projects, participate in projects as a subject matter expert in projects and lead team in testing as needed for projects and system updates/improvements that impact department.
- Lead, coach, mentor, develop and foster a positive team working environment. That encourages collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Complete special projects at the direction of the Chief Accounting Officer
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Master’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration is strongly preferred
- CPA is preferred
Experience Requirements
- 12+ years of related experience
- 5+ years of management experience
- Oracle or similar ERP with understanding of subledger accounting (specifically project accounting, fixed assets, accounts payable, and accounts receivable)
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and general accounting transactions related to intercompany, debt, SG&A, allocations, accruals, etc.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles related to project accounting, fixed asset and lease accounting experience required
- Experience successfully leading accounts payable, billing, travel and expense and master data management in a shared services high volume environment
- Ability to understand accounting business processes and implement process improvements and lead transformation projects cross-functionally
- Experience with share-based compensation accounting
- Ability to analyze, conclude and communicate results accurately under short deadlines while managing routine workload demands.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, set priorities, and perform and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and independently
- Experience and knowledge regarding Sarbanes-Oxley and internal controls required
- Ability to adhere to a high degree of confidentiality standards, integrity, and discretion.
- Ability to work well in a team environment to achieve deadlines.
- Demonstrated strong supervisory, leadership and decision-making skills required
- Advanced with Microsoft Office applications
- Fluent in English, both oral and written
- Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs
