The Director of Employment Services reports directly to the Vice President, Human Resources and will work closely with the HR leadership team to drive HR initiatives related to employee relations while collaborating with labor relations across the Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC) system. Maintain companywide employee and labor relations practices which strive to maximize performance, minimize risk, and expedite decision making.
- Leads and develops a broad and dispersed HR team across multiple locations by attracting, retaining, and motivating the best talent. Mentors and fosters growth of employment services team. Evaluates and provides ongoing development of HR talent to ensure that value added HR advice and counsel is provided to staff and management consistently across the organization;
- Develops relationships and leverages resources with key HR shared services areas (e.g., benefits, compensation, labor relations, occupational health, learning & professional development, etc.) as well as with key stakeholders across the organization to ensure comprehensive and quality services are delivered in a coordinated manner;
- Manage, oversee, and conduct thorough, prompt workplace investigations to respond timely to employee complaints/issues with guidance of our Sr. Legal Counsel. Utilizes a consistent and thoughtful approach throughout the investigatory process;
- Trains, advises and develops Employee Relations team in conducting effective investigations leading to timely resolution. Ensure consistent application of workplace conduct expectations, investigatory processes, disciplinary actions, coaching opportunities and other remedial actions;
- Assist with developing and implementing effective and cost-efficient HR operational plans in support of strategic initiatives. Partner with leadership to proactively build a culture that aligns with the strategic goals of the organization;
- Monitors internal workforce trends to proactively identify gaps and determine appropriate solutions. Analyzes relevant measures and prepares presentations and reports to help in decision making and strategy development;
- Lead or assist in the creation and/or amendment of employment-related policies;
- Directs the utilization of CCHC’s performance management and employee relations computer systems and assumes responsibility as “Business Owner” of these systems ensuring proper documentation, training guides and communication. Manages CCHC’s performance evaluation program, providing training and ensuring adoption and completion;
- Coordinates with VP Human Resources and/or Sr. Legal Counsel on advising management on the application of employment regulations, personnel policies and practices, and labor laws for both represented and non-union staff;
- Assist Labor Relations in providing guidance to Leadership in developing appropriate collective bargaining strategies and priorities to support department and CCHC operational interests;
- Provides a full range of consultation services to CCHC stakeholders on employment policies and practices. Collaborates with Labor Relations in advising on rules and practices under applicable collective bargaining agreements;
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of employment laws, regulatory requirements, HR Trends and technology;
- Challenges current working practices; identifies process improvement opportunities and presents recommendations and solutions to management. Engages and commits to the organization’s culture of continuous improvement by actively participating, supporting, and promoting CCHC Pillars of Excellence;
- Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred;
- PHR or SPHR designation a plus;
- Minimum of 7 years in an HR Management level role with extensive experience conducting workplace investigations and handling complex employee relations matters;
- Demonstrated success with HR team development; ability to lead, motivate, plan, and review the work of direct reports;
- Labor Relations education/training programs a plus;
- Demonstrated experience in a unionized work environment with knowledge of labor relations, collective bargaining process and labor contract administration;
- Exceptional project and time management skills; proven record of effectively prioritizing and executing work responsibilities;
- Strong listening, relationship building and collaboration skills; models transparency and accountability;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a broad and diverse group of stakeholders;
- Ability to collaborate, influence, and drive results with passion, tact, and persuasion;
- Commitment to applying a high touch, high service approach to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring quality service;
- Passion for new and cutting-edge approaches; demonstrated creativity and innovation;
