This Finance leadership role has a wide range of responsibilities within the Heidelberg Canada organization which include, but are not limited to, responsibility for all aspects of business analysis and decision support, financial accounting & internal controls, credit/collection and customer financing, taxation, treasury, budgeting and forecasting. The successful candidate will be expected to be “hands-on” at the same time as provide financial, strategic, and business support to the Heidelberg Canada Management team. With the support of subject matter experts elsewhere in the Heidelberg Americas team, the position is also responsible for all areas of legal, compliance, payroll and human resources. The successful candidate will be legally appointed secretary/treasurer and a director of Heidelberg Canada.
Overall responsibility for all Heidelberg Canada Finance functions
- Maintain accounting records and systems of internal control and compliance in accordance with group and local policies and procedures, in close cooperation with shared service functions internal and external to the Heidelberg Group
- Ensure integrity and accuracy of all financial systems, statements, and reporting
- Ensure month-end closing process and related financial reporting is completed according to group and local objectives and timelines
- Responsible for managing external annual audits and production of annual financial statements
- Responsible for coordinating internal audits and monitoring completion of action list
Business Controlling
- Ensure relevant information within financial reports is analysed, communicated, and explained to company senior management on a regular basis
- Responsible for monitoring and analysing product and business profitability
- Responsible for overall overhead cost management according to agreed Annual Operating Plan or revised forecast levels
- Responsible for all aspects of working capital and its management. Objective is to achieve optimal working capital ratios per group targets while maintaining adequate company working capital resources
- Support and drive strategic and operational efficiency within the company.
- Develop healthy working relationships with all key management/senior staff within the company
- Support Vice President, Sales & Service in driving adherence to company objectives and group strategy
- Support other department managers by ensuring finance objectives are carried into all business decisions.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Ensure all budgeting and forecasting is accurate, managed and completed according to group and local timing deadlines
Credit & Collection
- Management of credit control and key decisions on credit risk and credit management
- Approve / arrange approval of payment terms for equipment sales according to group guidelines
- Monitor and drive improvement in credit and collections KPIs in accordance with group, regional and local targets
Treasury, Cash Flow monitoring and forecast
- Responsible for all banking and cash management systems, including appropriate systems of internal control
- Responsible for cash flow planning and effective optimization of cash resources.
- Maintain external banking relationships
Customer Financing
- Coordinate customer financing requests and applications, working with internal and external resources as necessary
Taxation
- Ensure all company tax returns and reports are submitted correctly and on a timely basis as per local taxation requirements. is compliant with all local taxation requirements
- Coordinate preparation of income tax and transfer pricing reports with external tax advisors
Legal / Contract Law/Compliance/Insurance
- Ensure all company contracts and customer documents are legally compliant and in adherence of company risk mitigation objectives
- Responsible as Compliance Officer for Heidelberg Canada compliance programs, and ensure that all Group and local compliance guidance is communicated and adhered to within Heidelberg Canada.
- Overall responsibility for all insurance requirements in Heidelberg Canada, with support of subject matter experts within Americas region.
- Overall responsibility for ensuring Heidelberg Canada complies with all local, provincial and federal laws and regulations.
- Working with external and in-house counsel as necessary
Administrative Responsibility for other functions
- Administrative responsibility for several teams of Heidelberg Canada employees who take day-to-day operational direction from functional managers located in Atlanta or Germany in the area of procurement, warehousing/distribution, order management and IT.
- Overall responsibility for human resources, health and safety and payroll, with the support of subject matter experts based in Atlanta
Projects
- Lead and implement finance transformation projects at Heidelberg Canada.
- Ad hoc projects from time to time.
- A qualified, “hands on” Canadian CPA accountant with 5+ years’ experience with increasing level of responsibility and management experience at a leadership team level.
- A broad business/finance skill set covering month end closing and reporting, tax, forecasting/ budgeting and credit responsibility
- SAP experience is a significant benefit to the position
- Ability to embrace working in a high-paced, deadline-oriented environment managing multiple tasks as the same time, and working in a shared-service environment
- Experience of developing high quality financial processes from conception to launch as well as transforming finance functions.
- A confident self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and build strong relationships across all levels.
- Credibility and gravitas to challenge current thinking and influence in a positive and constructive manner both inside and outside finance and drive transformation within the Finance arena.
- The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, capable of providing both real challenge and wise counsel to the Heidelberg Canada management team and should be capable of further progression within the Heidelberg Group.
- Must demonstrate first-class technical and analytical skills combined with real business acumen in a cash constrained business within an International Group.
