The Director of Human Resources of GBS DR, is primarily responsible for providing insightful and detailed information to the business regarding the HR processes.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Working with the senior management team of business units to develop short- and long-term business strategies. In conjunction with the General Manager, VPs/Directors, HR determine the major HR implications of these strategies and plot the course to enhance the business success through new and innovating HR ideas.
  • Define and develop the corresponding HR tactics to support the business strategies ensuring that all actions fit with the overall HR goals and objectives of the company. The incumbent will be supporting the functions related to people management like: HR Administration, Recruitment, Hiring, Onboarding, Training, Learning, Development, Performance Management, Payroll, Employee Relations, Labour Relations, Engagement, Recognition Programs, and others.
  • Maintain an awareness of emerging trends and best practices in HR and liaise with HR peers, both within and outside of Scotiabank and Global Business Services to ensure policies and procedures stay current and market competitive.
  • Monitor current HR practices within business units to ensure they continue to adhere to guidelines established by Corporate HR and reflect the values articulated by the Scotiabank group, as well as the local legal requirements in Dominican Republic.
  • Act as an Advisor to business units by providing advice guidance and/or coaching on sensitive confidential and complex HR issues.
  • Provide strong leadership to motivate individual and team performance: exhibiting an ability to listen, negotiate and communicate goals; share knowledge, experience and responsibility when dealing with employees in order to create a drive to be the best; recognizing development needs in relation to business objectives, and being familiar with developmental goals relative to employment equity and taking a proactive approach in achieving results.
  • The incumbent leads a large (25+) group of HR professionals in the central department. The incumbent is responsible for coaching, guidance and development of the team members. He or she is also responsible for ensuring that the unit is staffed and that performance expectations are met by the members of the team.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education / Experience / Other Information (include only those that are specific to the role)

  • The incumbent should possess an MBA with an emphasis on HR, or equivalent work experience.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is an asset.
  • +10 years of experience in Human Resources, ideally in a financial institution and/or Shared Services operations or Business Process Outsourcing companies, and/or financial services.
  • Deep understanding of the International environment, operations, and should be versed in the regulatory environments of the countries that are going to be placing their operations in Dominican Republic.

The incumbent must have the skills and experience to identify and take action on issues that included recruitment, career and leadership resource planning, performance management, project management, total compensation plans and employee relations programs:

  • Sound knowledge of HR policies and related philosophies.
  • Strong business acumen competency to align both business objectives and HR strategies with corporate goals to maximize shareholder value
  • Good understanding of the diversity programs that affect each of the serviced entities.
  • Strong diagnostic skills followed by good ability to evaluate options/alternatives and develop solutions/recommendations for solutions to complex and multi-dimensional problems/issues.
  • Solid negotiation and influencing skills to work with both the line management and the Global HR policy groups.
  • Strong project management skills and effective execution skills to ensure successful delivery/implementation of special initiatives, products, processes and policies.
  • High orientation and commitment with the people and leadership skill that inspires to the action.
