Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, People, the Director, Human Resources provides direction to the compensation, organizational development, disability management and return to work services, pension services, talent acquisition teams. The position works in partnership with the Director of Labour Relations, Manager, HR Business Advisory Services and Manager, Safety Resources to provide strategic advice to senior leaders across the University.
The Director develops future-looking human resources strategies, policies, processes and systems in their area of responsibility and effectively implements these strategies in a way that supports the university’s shared services delivery model and institutional goals in a complex unionized environment.
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in human resources, compensation and benefits administration, HR operations and systems improvement, organizational development or a related discipline
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation preferred
- Related certification(s) such as Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Pension Plan Administration (PPAC or other) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) preferred
- Minimum 8-10 years’ experience at progressive levels of responsibility in strategic HR, with emphasis in a large, complex, multi-union environment
- Knowledge of the concepts, theories, practices related to total compensation, including competitive market strategies, salary structure design and management, organization and job design, job evaluation, benefits and pension administration, and employee wellness
- Solid knowledge of the concepts, theories, practices and techniques of HRIS operations and related analytics and reporting
- High degree of business acumen, detail oriented with strong skills in operational excellence
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to apply sound judgment in problem solving, evaluating courses of action, and making decisions on complex employment and labour relations matters
- Experience and understanding of diversity, inclusion and the concepts of Indigenization and reconciliation as they relate to human resources.
