The Director of Business Services (DBS) is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive business plans/models for new and or existing programs, new starts, mergers and acquisitions, new service lines, new or existing services, etc., including components such as cost benefit analysis, break even analysis, and service area population analysis (via UDS Mapper and other sources). The DBS will evaluate existing programs and services and identify opportunities for improvement and more cost effective, self-sustaining ways of providing VG services. The DBS is responsible for all areas of contracting for the organization and will screen, review, provide appropriate language, and prepare contracts for internal signature and execution.
- Works with department heads to conduct program change analysis to facilitate building and implementing business models that are self-sustainable and financially viable.
- Makes recommendations to the COO and Executive Committee on making model changes to improve and maximize revenue.
- Builds relationships with both internal and external partners.
- Becomes the internal expert in using UDS Mapper
- Meets with outside entities to promote, secure, and nurture partnerships.
- Assists with or leads contract negotiations, as assigned.
- Reviews contracts and ensures they are HRSA compliant and in the best interest of VG.
- Enters contracts into the appropriate databases for tracking.
- Works closely with VG legal counsel as directed and or as needed on major contracts and agreements.
- Responsible for writing and updating all policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.
- Handle protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Thorough knowledge of the health care business environment.
- Knowledge of procurement systems and contracts.
- Knowledge of clinic operations issues, including medical records and patient flow.
- Knowledge of Healthcare Facilities Management principles.
- Knowledge of Healthcare Risk Management principles.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations or other accrediting issues and requirements.
- Excellent ability in interpersonal, oral, and written communication and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to present information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to supervise multiple functions and activities, delegating authority, and responsibility as appropriate.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people, including employees, patients, government officials, and the public.
- Mathematical and reasoning skills to analyze and solve problems.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, safe driving record and insurance coverage.
- Bilingual/bicultural proficiency in Spanish preferred (spoken & written).
Education and Experience Required:
- BA/BS degree in Business or Health Care Administration or related field required (master’s degree/MBA preferred).
- 7 years of progressively responsible healthcare administration experience, FQHC environment preferred.
- 5 years’ experience in working in a management position within an FQHC.
- 5 years in managing health care operations (medical, dental, or pharmacy).
- Experience with developing and managing new programs.
- Experience with opening and managing new office locations.
- Experience with developing high-level business and operational reports.
- Experience with developing staffing plans and models.
