This is a great opportunity to come in and continue to grow Business Services and establish an efficient platform for transactional services through end-to-end processes, which can accommodate further integration of internal processes, to reduce cost and attract revenue from external sources, whilst delivering exceptional services both internally and externally.

  • You will lead in creating the Business Services strategy to drive performance across the function and deliver against all agreed KPIs/metrics. You will be instrumental in embedding the team within CPO, ensuring one destination for simple, easy to access, reliable business services that drive TfL forwards that puts the end user at the core
  • You will provide visible and authentic leadership to the Business Services team, a multi-disciplinary matrix team of approx. 10 direct reports with wider responsibility for approximately 367 colleagues. Responsible for maintaining the asset register (circa £47bn), with overall responsibility third party provider spend.
  • In addition to our transactional HR and Finance services team, you will lead the Property Services Team as well as the collaboration team responsible for the delivery of the GLA Collaboration Portfolio on behalf of TfL and the GLA organizations. Contributing to the GLA budget and savings achievements, accountable for property rates payment and collection of TfL rent due from tenants as well as final approver for Mayors Opinion on the disposal of Properties
  • You will work collaboratively with CPO leaders on the service level agreements providing guidance adhering to the legislation, to deliver the transactional activities across the employee life cycle including Recruitment, Learning & Development, payroll, and advice to employees. Your input will be essential for the long-term strategic direction and leadership of associated strategy, policies, governance, and standards for all end-to-end processes.
  • You will be an influential and trusted advisor to the Chief People Officer and members of TfL’s Executive Committee and Board. Key stakeholders include the TfL Commissioner, Deputy Mayors, Mayor’s Chief of Staff, Mayor’s Office and Chair and Chief Executives.
  • You are already an established Business Services professional at a senior level with significant in-depth experience of delivering, deploying, and managing a multi-functional Business Services organization in a complex, commercial organization of similar scale to TfL.
  • Customer service and process efficiency will be at the heart of everything you do, with a strong interest in shared services best practice and embedding a culture of continuous improvement. You will have experience of identifying opportunities to implement enabling technologies to improve the Business Services operations and add value to the customer experience.
  • While a recognized professional qualification in Finance, Commercial/Business Management or HR (e.g. ACA, CIMA, CIPD) is desirable, you will have strong proven operational experience of leading a Business Services function as a high performing, successful and independent business with demonstrable process knowledge ideally in one or more of the End to End processes (i.e. HR or Finance).
  • You’ll have demonstrable commercial and leadership skills with high personal impact and experience of managing high-performing large matrixed Business Services teams. You will be passionate about creating a positive and rewarding place to work, setting a clear vision for your team and contributing to an inclusive culture in your organization.
  • Experience of managing large-scale transitions / substantial change projects would be beneficial, with the confidence and ability to deliver change in the right way and bringing your team with you.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability and credibility to sustain trusted partnerships at Chief Officer and Board level is essential. Given the interface with GLA and Mayor’s Office, it is critical that you can navigate a complex political environment and these political senior stakeholders. Trade union experience would also be beneficial.
