Our client is the national administrative bodies that work together to support the mission and ministry of the Church of England. Their activities are hugely varied, ranging from management of a multi-billion-pound investment fund, to one of the biggest grant-giving charities in the country, a housing service for retired clergy and the administration of three multi-employer pension schemes.

Seeking an experienced Finance Director to lead and manage the fascinating, varied and stretching portfolio of activity across the organisations, ensuring that all core business-as-usual functions continue to deliver during a time of significant change. You will also be keen to work collaboratively with the Director of Finance Transformation to support the Finance team on this important change journey.

The Director of Finance leads the highly skilled Finance team which is a shared services function working across the organisations to provide a comprehensive, cost-effective finance service to each organisation, and helping to co-ordinate joint projects where appropriate. The team also provides support to, and promotes best practice across the wider Church in relation to financial matters, including monitoring the financial health of Dioceses, Cathedrals, Theological Education Institutions etc.

The Finance team is currently supporting the organisations’ clients with some major change and transformation projects, as well as undergoing significant changes to their own ways of working to ensure they can deliver a high-quality Finance service which meets the needs of the organisations. This includes undertaking a Finance Transformation Programme (being led by the incumbent postholder) to help Finance develop their service and supporting the Church of England Governance Programme which will reshape the organisations themselves.

The Finance Director will lead and manage the current varied portfolio of activity across the organisations, ensuring that all core business-as-usual functions continue to deliver during this time of significant change. The FD will also support a range of other projects and initiatives in response to the organisations’ needs.
