The Director of Fiscal Operations is responsible for setting the strategic direction and managing services provided by Accounting Services, Business Services, and Student Account Services. The Director provides leadership for the staff that provide administrative services relevant to accounting, accounts receivable, student accounts, purchasing, accounts payable, and budgets for the college, ensuring compliance of federal, state, and institutional policies.
Essential Job Functions
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements and reports.
- Oversee the preparation of month-end closing entries.
- Oversee the preparation of the budget process.
- Responsible for the College’s inventory and fixed assets
- Implement, monitors and oversee internal controls as it relates to accounting and business services, ensuring accuracy of information and account classification.
- Develop procedures within the Accounting and Business Services departments.
- Implement policy within the Accounting and Business Services departments.
- Provide technical advice, interpret information and assist individuals/departments regarding budgetary and financial data and procedures.
- Work alongside the Vice President of Finance and Operations in specialized reporting, audit responses, and investment fund allocations.
- Work with state and federal officials and auditors.
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of various external reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Non-essential Functions
- Promote, participate and support student recruitment and retention efforts.
- Serve on various campus committees.
Knowledge, Skills And Responsibilities
- Knowledge of current accounting theories and practices involving auditing and budgeting procedures.
- Knowledge of college, Tennessee Board of Regents, state and federal rules, regulations, procedures and accounting practices.
- Knowledge of financial reporting requirements of GASB, AICPA, NACUBO and the State of Tennessee.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills consistent with interpreting policies and procedures, providing clear and concise information, and compiling information into complete and accurate summaries and reports.
- Interpersonal skills consistent with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to make decisions using sound judgment.
Job Standards/Qualifications
- Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria
Criteria Set 1
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university required.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in finance, accounting or related field is required, including budget forecasting experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and higher education/governmental accounting standards is preferred.
Criteria Set 2
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university required.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in finance, accounting or related field is required, including budget forecasting experience.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and higher education/governmental accounting standards is preferred.
