The Director of Human Resources will advise, partner, and will proactively recommend solutions, as well as serve as an internal consultant in the areas of talent development, employee engagement and performance management.

The Director of Human Resources also manages the day-to-day administration of the HR department including (and not limited to): talent acquisition and onboarding, training and development, employment, performance management, compliance, and HRIS.

  • Work directly with Chief Executive Officer and management teams to lead, manage, influence and shape organizational change.
  • Plan, administer and supervise a comprehensive HR function including activities in recruitment, onboarding, employee development, employee recognition, counseling, performance evaluation, workforce planning, span of control, staffing and assessment, etc.
  • Consult with and advise leadership on HR related matters, including policies and procedures.
  • Partners with senior administrative team to develop and align corporate goals with their individual business goals.
  • Participates in talent development and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Participates in HR developmental value stream activities.
  • Provides input in human resources policies, management plans and programs and is accountable for their communication and implementation.
  • Maintaining accuracy and integrity of PeopleSoft system (employee record)
  • Implement interdisciplinary collaborative to improve patient outcomes, utilizing “Lean Thinking”, root cause analysis, and other quality measures of improvement.
  • Manages OTPS and PS resources; identifies new needs and alignment with the business goals
  • Serve as member of the local Labor-Management Committee
  • Ensure the facility remains in compliance with all related regulatory requirements and remains survey ready.
  • Work collaboratively with primary stakeholders to develop and implement best practice guidelines and protocols; maintains and shares key metrics that will be used to continually drive improvement
  • Takes prompt action to investigate and respond to complaints
  • Collaborates Legal Affairs, Labor Relations, Affirmative Action / EEO, Corporate Payroll Systems, Corporate Information Services and facility Occupational Health Services Departments.
  • Implements NYC Health + Hospitals’ Personnel Orders and Pay Authorization issued by Central Office.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Human Resources Management, Business/Hospital Administration, Public Administration Management, Psychology, Communications or related disciplines, and six years of related experience in human resource management, employee relations or development, of which at least four years are in responsible levels of administration or management; or,
  • A Master’s in Human Resources Management, Business/Hospital Administration, Public Administration Management, Psychology, or Communications or related disciplines, and five years of related experience in human resources, employee relations or development, three years of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or,
  • A satisfactory combination of education, training and experience. Degrees must be from accredited colleges or universities

Department Preferences

  • 6+ years of executive level HR leadership experience within a large healthcare or hospital system, with strong experience in talent management, strategic planning, and employee engagement
  • Experienced in working in a shared services model and centralized standardized structure.
  • Must possess knowledge and understanding of federal, state, city, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations relevant to HR operations
  • Experience partnering and working collaboratively with department heads and senior level administrators
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar HRIS platforms
  • Ability to work in a diverse community
  • Ability and experience working in a “lean Six Sigma” environment
  • The Joint Commission, DOH, CMS, CAP, and other regulatory survey management experience
