As Director of Payroll Operations, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing our payroll function across multiple countries within Europe. This critical leadership position will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of payroll, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the effective utilization of related systems to support Emerson’s European operations.

Reporting to the VP HR Europe and Global HR Operations Leader, you will lead a team of payroll professionals, collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders to drive digital transformation initiatives, streamline processes, and enhance the employee experience. You will have the opportunity to shape the future of payroll within our organization, driving innovation, process improvements, and ensuring compliance with evolving European regulations.

This role is also a critical part of Emerson’s global HRIS & Payroll Operations center of excellence. You will work with leaders in the Americas, Asia-Pacific and MEA to drive consistent, global processes, scale shared services and keep Emerson at the forefront of technology and trends that impact our people, HRIS and payroll.

Payroll Operations Management:

  • Oversee payroll operations for Europe, ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee payroll, tax withholdings, and deductions.
  • Stay updated with local payroll regulations, tax requirements, and compliance standards to ensure payroll practices align with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement modern payroll and timekeeping systems to optimize processes, improve data accuracy, and ensure compliance.

Payroll Systems, Process and Vendor Modernization:

  • Lead our effort across all employees in Europe to consolidate under ADP as our single external payroll partner.
  • Influence and collaborate with Emerson IT and ADP project leaders for country-by-county implementations of Emerson’s chosen HRIS, payroll and time systems and vendor structure.
  • Optimize in-country and shared service resources in Europe and globally to execute payroll as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Governance:

  • Collaborate with IT and HR teams to assess business requirements, identify system gaps, and implement solutions that meet Emerson’s needs.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and privacy within payroll systems, adhering to GDPR and other applicable data protection regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of the HR Tech roadmap in collaboration with IT, leveraging techno-functional competencies to drive alignment with business requirements and optimized user experience.

Vendor Management and Compliance:

  • Manage relationships with payroll vendors, ensuring adherence to service level agreements, contract negotiations, and vendor performance evaluations.
  • Monitor compliance with data security and privacy regulations, ensuring the protection of employee data and HRIS system integrity.
  • Stay informed about HRIS industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes, proactively assessing their impact and proposing necessary adaptations.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in HR management, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in payroll operations, including leadership roles
  • In depth knowledge of payroll systems and tools, preferably including experience with Oracle Cloud HCM, UKG Dimensions (Kronos) and ADP
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax compliance, and data privacy regulations within Europe
  • Proven experience in managing payroll implementation projects, system upgrades, and integrations
  • Proficient in HR analytics, data reporting, and using data-driven insights to support decision making
  • Familiarity with vendor management, contract negotiations, and service level agreement monitoring
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and drive results
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken), with additional language skills preferred
  • Openness to travel 50% of the time across Europe
