As the Director of Technology at our world-class art museum, you will assume a pivotal and visionary role in shaping the technological landscape and all technology-related initiatives of our institution. This position will lead a dynamic team of IT professionals and will be responsible for the team’s career and or professional development and overseeing IT delivery processes. This position will lead the museum through the digital age, driving innovation, enhancing visitor experience, streamlining internal operations, mitigating cybersecurity risks, and aligning technology strategies with our mission and vision.
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop, communicate, and execute a visionary technology strategy that aligns with the museum’s mission and vision. This strategic insight will drive the adoption of innovative technologies to enrich the visitor experience, bolster staff efficiency, and achieve organizational goals.
- Collaborate closely with senior leadership, acting as the technology advocate and advisor. The ability to articulate the value of technology initiatives will be crucial to securing buy-in from key stakeholders.
- Manage vendor and contractor relationships and project delivery.
- Ensure governance and compliance with IT policies and risk management practices.
- Promote and implement institutional EDI initiatives.
Team and Department Oversight:
- Foster a culture of excellence and innovation which includes supervising and nurturing team members, setting clear goals, and empowering them to deliver exceptional results.
- Lead team culture, workforce and succession planning, performance management, employee relations, and team development.
- Establish and enforce departmental policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure consistency and reliability in technology solutions.
- Prioritize technology projects with a keen eye on their impact on the visitor experience and staff workflows. Providing top-notch customer service and effective vendor management will be fundamental to the role.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) for technology projects.
- Establish departmental norms of operation and behaviors to ensure institution safety, collaboration, and inclusion.
- Oversee technology design, implementation, and infrastructure needs.
Technical Expertise
- Execute the overall design, implementation, and maintenance of technology infrastructure withinthe institution including business systems, networking, website, physical security and exhibit/artistic technology support.
- Research and evaluate new technologies for potential integration.
- Oversee selection, implementation, integration, and maintenance of cross-departmental business software applications.
- Ensure data security, business continuity, and IT continuance.
- Identify technology projects that enhance museum staff’s work environment.
Communication and Collaboration:
- In collaboration with the IT team, develop, implement, maintain, and manage, when necessary, cross-departmental projects.
- Advise museum leadership on technology needs, trends, applications, and opportunities that can be used to meet the museum’s business and program needs to further the museum’s mission and vision.
- In collaboration with staff, shape, refine, and prioritize technology initiatives and projects that enhance the museum visitor experience and staff workflows throughout the museum complex.
Financial Management:
- Supervise Information Technology Department and staff, including contractors, and oversee departmental budgets, planning and outcomes.
- Assess the feasibility of new technology ideas and develop prototypes for presentation to stakeholders.
- Implement and support shared services delivery models for technology.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Consistent usage of the Racial Equity Lens in day-to-day operations.
- Yearly goal setting to support Racial Equity Roadmap Initiatives.
- Available for on-call support and after-hours work as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education or formal training:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related fields.
Experience:
- Minimum ten years of technology-related experience.
- Minimum five years of experience in managing teams and leading major technology projects.
- Working experience with a wide variety of software platforms, production techniques, and technology solutions.
- Experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
- Experience with Microsoft Technology Stack and cloud-based systems.
- Must be able to work well with end users, Technology staff, and management.
- Knowledge of the technology field with both hands-on and IT strategic planning experience.
- Experience in shaping technologies for visitors and staff workflows.
- Ability to assess feasibility of new technology ideas or elements.
- Experience in developing models or prototypes for presentation to staff, advisors, and donors.
- Experience in developing and supporting a shared services delivery model for technology.
- Experience managing cyber/information security including evaluating institutional vulnerability, actively responding to cyberthreats or attacks, and overseeing protocol to mitigate institutional risk.
- Understanding of IT governance, compliance, and risk management practices.
Skills and Leadership:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, in an informed and persuasive manner, to diverse constituencies, including curators, administrators, staff, and external parties.
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
- Skilled with PCI DSS compliance and supporting Point of Sale (POS) systems.
- Skilled in IT infrastructure, interface design, information architecture, web development and design, network operations, database design, business flow and analysis, data warehousing, software licensing, IT security and technology troubleshooting.
- Adept at balancing strategic vision with budgetary constraints.
- Knowledge and experience in help desk operations.
- Ability to successfully manage and implement projects within deadlines and budgetary constraints.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong vendor management skills, including contract negotiation and relationship management.
