The Director of Payroll will lead the payroll team and manage all aspects of the payroll function. The Director will be responsible for establishing policies, procedures, systems, and metrics to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely processing of payrolls while ensuring effective process controls and compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Develop a high-performing payroll team by devising and deploying effective efforts to recruit, hire, engage the payroll team members, and manage employee performance.
- Lead the continuous evolution of the payroll team’s practices to leverage industry-leading practices and technology.
- Develop strategy to ensure the payroll function’s short and long-term success. Propose and implement management plan to deliver on strategy – including annual goal planning, team’s organization structure, budget, vendor partnerships, deployment of technology, etc.
- Develop policies and procedures for the payroll function to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Requires expertise and continuous research on regulatory changes and leading practices. Must ensure the team’s execution on related procedures.
- Lead the team to deliver outstanding payroll-related service to employees. Design processes and systems-delivered services that provide clear, easy access to employee’s payroll information. Leverage HR service delivery resources and develop payroll-specific service delivery models to support employees’ payroll questions and issues. Create effective change readiness and communication plans regarding payroll processes and change initiatives.
- Use data to track issues, trends and the team’s service delivery performance.
- Manage relationships with and assess performance of payroll processing, service delivery, and technology vendors, while driving continuous improvement and accountability. Mange agreements and commercial terms with vendors.
- Collaborate with HR Systems team to establish processes to effectively maintain and configure payroll systems, develop reporting and analytics, maintain data quality and system integration, etc.
- Collaborate with various functional groups (Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, Tax), to streamline and develop processes that ensure efficient and effective payroll processes.
- Lead team’s approach to support enterprise initiatives. Assess and address complex project and challenges.
- Implement and maintain robust procedures to ensure data privacy and security within the payroll department. Includes management of compliance with relevant regulations
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role managing multi-state complex payroll.
- Proficient managing vendor relationships such as UKG, ADP, Workday, Equifax.
- Experience developing and managing process and system controls.
- Experience working with internal and external audit teams.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated aptitude with Workday payroll and MS Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Additional
- At least 4 years of experience coaching, mentoring, training staff and/or assigning work/projects to other members of a team.
- Experience controlling and coordinating concurrent projects, competing priorities and critical deadlines.
- Experience building and maintaining relationships within and between teams.
- Experience working in a client/customer shared service environment.
- Experience working with MS Office Suite, Kronos and PeopleSoft.
- Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: V Look up and Pivot Tables).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification/Licensure – CPP/Workday certification
- Experience processing payroll for multi-entity multi-state payroll with over 18,000 employees
