The Director, Strategic Planning is responsible for leading the design and implementation of corporate strategic planning and priority setting across the organization, including value assessment and business impact of strategic initiatives to keep financial investments aligned with strategic and business value while accounting for organizational changes.
In collaboration with senior management and other stakeholders, the Director, Strategic Planning ensures the organization is well positioned, both for the present and the future, and oversees the collection of strategic intelligence and market analysis in order to inform, define, develop and implement strategic plans. The incumbent will define a roadmap for the strategic execution of complex, cross-functional business transformations, and play a leading role in the successful implementation of Wawanesa’s strategy.
- Design and lead the company’s strategic planning process across all business lines and shared services functions to achieve company goals and strategies.
- Collaborate with the cross-functional leadership team to identify and evaluate key strategic actions that aim to support the company’s strategic priorities, assessing strategic value and defining key performance indicators and success measures .
- Develop and improve the governance, measurement and reporting framework for the company’s strategic activities, including clearly communicating progress on strategic initiatives, risks and opportunities, understanding capacity execution of the organization and by identifying the dependencies and the sequence of strategic activities for the company.
- Be responsible for establishing a roadmap for all strategic initiatives, as well as monitoring and reporting on the achievement of key expected results, including achievement measures. Ensure that the organization has core processes and monitoring measures in place so that it can effectively address its strategic and operational priorities and achieve desired results.
- Lead the development of strategic market and competitive analyses, ensuring that research is appropriately integrated into all phases of the strategic planning process and that analyzes are communicated to key stakeholders.
- Support corporate budgeting and planning activities by leading and facilitating the prioritization of available spend for strategic initiatives aligned with strategic priorities and business case outcomes.
- Work in partnership with the Enterprise Project Management Center of Excellence and Financial Planning and Analysis to integrate the portfolio of change initiatives (projects, programs and products) into the broader corporate governance process. strategic planning.
- Create partnerships and build strong relationships within the organization to gain cross-functional strategic perspectives and gain knowledge across lines of business and functions.
- At least five years of executive experience in strategic planning or related strategy development, and ten years of professional experience in the insurance, financial services or commercial environment equivalent.
- Post-secondary diploma in commerce or a related discipline; an MBA is considered an asset.
- Certificate in project management, a requirement and experience in agile delivery, an asset.
- Experience in strategic management/planning, strategy development, business planning or performance management.
- Excellent business and financial acumen, proven ability for general and analytical thinking and the ability to formulate influential recommendations and initiatives.
- Strong skills in influencing others as well as negotiation and conflict resolution – ability to convince and obtain commitment when dealing with multiple stakeholders and facing potentially opposing positions.
- Priority given to implementing practices that meet the needs of the organization and promote efficiency and value creation.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively convey ideas in a persuasive, simple and eloquent manner.
- Ability to make excellent, well-justified decisions in complex and highly tense situations.
- Proven experience leading programs/projects and meeting commitments and deadlines.
- Knowledge of the Project Management Office, Project Management Office governance and/or investment planning.
- Excellent command of MS Office suite and experience in financial modeling.
- Obtaining the PAA title, an asset.
- Ability and willingness to travel, if applicable.
