The Director, Total Rewards and Team Member Services role will lead our strategy development, design, implementation, administration, and governance of all HRIS, general support services, compensation, and benefit programs for Portillo’s. This role will ensure all programs enable our company Purpose, Values, business strategy, are effective in attracting, rewarding, engaging, and retaining key talent, and are fully compliant with local legal and regulatory requirements. Enables scalability by identifying and managing people, processes, and systems in a publicly traded company. This is a collaborative role that will work cross-functionally with Executive Leadership, Human Resources, Finance, Legal and various departments to understand business issues and collectively develop effective solutions

  • Build and maintain a total rewards, technology and shared services strategy that is fully aligned with the organization’s strategic plan, motivates performance, is fiscally responsible, and supports the attraction, engagement, and retention of high performing talent.
  • Oversee people technology roadmap and support services functions to enable organizational growth. Partner with IT, business, and people leaders in creating a digital experience for our Team Members.
  • Identifies total rewards and technology best practices from across various industries, most specifically restaurant.

  • Direct the design and implementation of company aligned and locally relevant compensation and benefits programs in collaboration with business unit, people business partners and local market leadership.
  • Oversee the communication and education of compensation and benefits programs to ensure understanding by team members.
  • Partners with learning, development, communications to ensure Team Members understand how to use our HRIS system and support services. All Standard Operating Procedures are up-to-date and/or developed.
  • Oversee compensation, benefits, and technology related vendor relationships, negotiating services and managing costs.

  • Lead execution of core Total Rewards processes including Executive, Broad Based, and Incentive Compensation; as well as Retirement, and Health and Welfare Benefits programs.
  • Oversee team who manages technology administration, configuration, maintenance, system, and data integrity. Establish strong governance controls, ensuring the integrity and protection of data and reports.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation and benefits policies, guidelines, and procedures, recommending plan revisions, as well as new plans, in support of the strategic plan.
  • Establish reporting, and analytics, emphasizing conducting data analysis and successfully deploying quality Benefits and Compensation programs.

  • Ensure strong governance and compliance of all Compensation, Benefits, HRIS and support services programs.
  • Oversees Team Member related policies and guidelines related to benefits, compensation, HRIS and supports services.
  • Ensure the capability to monitor local market trend information to ensure compensation and benefits programs are competitive and responsive to both corporate and local business unit needs.

This position reports to the CPO and leads and manages the work of the Benefits, Compensation, HRIS and support services teams, a group of approximately 5+ people both exempt and non-exempt. Role interacts with executive and senior leadership, other HR leaders, as well as Legal, Operations, Payroll and Accounting/Finance.

Minimum Educational Level/Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field preferred; MBA is preferred

Minimum Work Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • 4+years in leading a Total Rewards function (all aspects of compensation and benefits); prefer experience in publicly traded company
  • 4+ years in leading HRIS and shared services functions
  • 10+ years of related experience in Benefits and Compensation including management level responsibility
  • Experience overseeing executive compensation including regular engagement with the Compensation Committee of either privately held or publicly traded companies.
  • Build relationships by establishing connections at all levels to build trust, share ideas and accomplish work.
  • Strong developer of talent by leveraging strengths, setting expectations, encouragement and coaching.
