To serve as the executive lead for the financial efforts of the Heersink School of Medicine (HSOM) for all department’s clinical, academic, and research financial efforts. To ensure departmental adherence to established guidelines, policies, and procedures for all departments under the HSOM purview. To ensure all financial operations are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. Liaise with Executive Administrators and senior financial staff to ensure compliance with all financial matters. Identify opportunities for shared services to maximize financial departmental support while creating cost-saving measures for the school. To manage, establish, and maintain accurate financial management databases by departments and the Deans Office. Advise departmental leadership regarding the reporting and use of financial resources. Provide senior-level financial guidance to the Senior Executive Officer, Executive Officer, and Dean of the HSOM.
To represent and speak on behalf of the school on all financial matters with financial partners/stakeholders. To be responsible for financial analysis/forecasting/budgeting. To manage, lead, and recruit staff as necessary to ensure completion of projects and proper functioning of business and program operations. To monitor the actions/performance of financial staff in departments, centers, and institutes.
- Functions as an executive financial leader and oversees revenue and expense budgets for all clinical, academic, and research areas.
- Identifies budgetary objectives and financial goals and establishes systems for continuous management and reconciliation of accounts.
- Tracks and projects commitments made by the Dean and Senior Executive Officer
- Establishes and implements policies, procedures, and systems to monitor and control all financial activities for operational and capital budgets for the school in collaboration with HSF Finance.
- Approve expenditures to ensure compliance with financial plan/goals, conduct periodic assessments, report on financial performance, and communicate outcomes and financial information to leadership.
- Develops, implements, and monitors department faculty compensation/incentive plans for clinical faculty to encourage optimal clinical efficiencies and productivity.
- Analyzes effectiveness and equitability of compensation plan and provides recommendations to leadership if modifications are needed.
- Develops and maintains a financial/budgetary system that accounts for and monitors school-wide clinical costs, costs attributable to educational and research programs, and administrative costs
- Works closely with the Senior Executive Officer and Executive Officer to monitor the clinical and academic financial operations in all departments, analyzes revenue issues, and provides recommendations for cost savings and revenue maximization.
- Develops relationships with other departments and/or schools to collaboratively develop opportunities for shared financial services.
- Analyze current structures and work processes to determine best practices and opportunities for improving quality and efficiency.
- Determines needs for specific services to offer and develops cost-effective models for providing services.
- Manages the development of infrastructure required to provide shared services.
- Manage the HSOM Deans Office financial staff and HSOM Finance Share Services
- Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance and ten (10) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
