The Executive Director will lead Green Mountain Higher Education Consortium (GMHEC), a collaborative endeavor of three Vermont Colleges: Champlain College, Middlebury College and Saint Michael’s College. Partnered together, the goal of GMHEC is to find ways to collaborate in administrative services common to all three institutions to create greater efficiency and help to reduce costs over the long term while increasing service levels to our member institutions. This role will scale from operator to strategic organizational leader and manage complex projects, multiple stakeholders, and oversee the organization’s 19 staff members, budget and service contracts.
- Lead and manage the shared services nonprofit, ensuring high-quality service delivery and operational efficiency. Build and maintain strong relationships with current and potential consortium members. Develop and implement strategies to increase member engagement, satisfaction, and retention. Facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing among consortium members
- Collaborate with the Officers and institutional leadership on development of strategic direction for GMHEC, including expansion of offerings and services to current and future member institutions
- Oversee the organizational budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic goals and manage the fractional CFO to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance
- Coordinate technology services with the managed service provider to maintain robust and efficient system support for Oracle Cloud, the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system used by institution HR and Finance teams, as well as the Blackbaud RE/NXT system used by the Advancement teams
- Manage other IT infrastructure outside of ERPs in partnership with institutional technology teams, including integrations, contracts and cybersecurity
- Supervise the Benefits, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Procurement Shared Services Leaders, who are responsible for managing their respective teams, overseeing deadlines, projects and critical deliverables across each vertical
- Facilitate complex projects and develop a robust approach to meetings, information sharing and task management, ensuring successful project completion
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance and strategic oversight. Provide regular updates to the Board on the consortium’s progress, challenges, and opportunities. Support the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for shared services initiatives
- Significant experience leading shared service organizations, project management offices or like organizations with various stakeholders in either non-profit or corporate settings
- Visionary and strategic thinker with the ability to inspire, motivate and supervise others while also collaborating, fostering teamwork and building positive organizational culture. Track record of results-oriented commitment to excellence and continuous improvement
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate complex projects and manage multiple stakeholders effectively with proven expertise in project management
- Strong financial acumen, with experience overseeing organizational budgets and financial reporting
- Experience managing technology contracts and working with managed service providers as well as overseeing ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems, preferably Oracle, including Finance, Human Resource, and Student technology systems
- Knowledge of benefits, payroll, accounts payable and procurement desirable with ability to understand the complexities of each in partnership with the Shared Service Leader of each area.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with board members, institutional leaders and institutional experts from finance, human resources, advancement and IT
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
