The Executive Director/V.P., Global Accounting you will lead the global accounting activities of the organization to support the needs and requirements of a commercial stage multinational publicly traded company. The ED/VP will have overall responsibility for the accounting process, provision of GAAP financial statements and external auditor engagement. The ED/VP will partner with executives and managers across the company to engage and gather information on Company activities to improve business processes, enable effective decision making and track corporate performance. Will collaborate very closely with team members within our accounting teams as well as across all departments to make necessary changes and complete projects (as required) in support of company-wide goals and objectives.
- Manage all accounting activities for U.S. and international entity operations including product and collaboration revenue, product costing, research and development, selling, general and administrative expenses, investments, and other general corporate accounting matters
- Responsible for global revenue recognition for product sales and license and collaboration agreements
- Accounting oversight for monthly close processes for full Income Statement and Balance Sheet
- Responsible for the Company’s global shared services organization, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll
- Oversee the monthly financial statement review and trend analyses to ensure that all results are proper and prepared in accordance with guidelines; perform quarterly fluctuation analysis
- Strategize and anticipate emerging business needs and work with internal customers to identify business solutions that support business objectives
- Support auditors in quarterly reviews and annual audit
- Effectively lead the accounting team by hiring and retaining talent; address and develop performance and career development requirements
- Develop and maintain internal controls and reporting policies in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley 404b
- Work closely with financial planning & analysis team on reporting actual performance and explaining variances from forecast and budget and input for guidance
- Foster an environment of continuous improvement to identify, develop, and implement process changes and systems to increase efficiency, ensure accurate reporting, and build scalable accounting processes
- Assist with internal control design and execution
- Oversee aspects of data support for international direct and indirect taxes
- Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to participating in special projects, system improvements or ad hoc analyses/projects as assigned
Education/Experience:
- Degree in accounting
- CPA preferred (not active is OK)
- Minimum 15+ years of related accounting experience including 3-4 years as a controller in a public company as well as prior experience in a Big 4 public accounting firm
- 10+ years of relevant experience within Life Sciences or Biotechnology industries required
- In-depth knowledge and experience with GAAP, IFRS, and internal audits
- Firsthand experience in managing general ledger related functions, including familiarity with accounting software such as NetSuite or similar
- Experience leading and mentoring an accounting function, preferably in a public biotech company
- Understanding of databases and file management systems
- Advanced Excel skills (advanced filtering, vlookup, pivot tables)
- Experience with database comparisons and reconciliations
