This position is in the IBM The Weather Company business (TWC) or a shared services function supporting TWC.

The Weather Company is seeking an experienced, highly motivated general business manager to lead the continued growth of its aviation products and services division. The Weather Company is a world leader in the provision of weather-related SaaS services to the commercial airline industry that help the airlines optimize the efficacy of their operation in the face of disruptive weather and other impacts. Nearly every major airline in North America and many more around the world rely on The Weather Company to deliver a wide range of operationally critical weather and adjacent services including flight and dispatch management products, pilot weather briefing products, ground operations and alerting products, routine, ad-hoc and bespoke weather forecasting services and a rich set of common and proprietary aviation weather data products.

The Head of Aviation will report to the CEO of The Weather Company and will be responsible for the overall operation and growth of the aviation business. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Defining and executing short- and long-term strategies for the growth of the business, including identifying new products, services, markets, and adjacencies that leverage the core capabilities of the business
  • Tactical operation of the business including financial management, sales, pricing, contract development, product management, customer support and client success, and team management and organization.
  • Working closely with major clients to ensure alignment of the business strategies with the evolving requirements of the airline industry.
  • Coordinate and align across the company for dependent services such as product engineering, forecasting services, and scientific development, and to identify opportunities across other parts of the company to leverage and grow.
  •  Extensive experience working in the commercial aviation industry.
  • Solid background running a business or business unit including a track record of financial management and growth.
  • Familiarity with airline operations including dispatch, air-traffic control, ground operations, and piloting.
  • Familiarity with weather and its impacts on aviation.
  • A visceral passion and energy to rapidly grow the business and to be measured against such growth.
  • Strong leadership character including the ability to lead, motivate and inspire diverse teams aligned with the business.
  • A keen ability to anticipate future trends and proactively pivot in appropriate manners.
  • Confident and personable presence in front of clients and internal teams including strong oral and written articulation skills.
