You are a leading data professional with a passion for using insights to drive smarter decision making and an improved customer experience, and you come equipped with experience leading technical teams.

This role is accountable for all aspects of the managing the data held by the ubank business, and you want to play a key role in the transformation of analytics and insights delivery for a rapidly-growing, digitally-native business.

This role reports to the Chief Product Officer – Lending.

  • Lead the Data & Analytics team in a cross-functional model across ubank, with people management responsibilities for a team of data engineers, data analysts, data scientists and managers.
  • Develop strong relationships across business and technology stakeholders and lead a common understanding of the data held and processed by the business.
  • Own analytics and data pipeline work packages and oversee project coordination, backlog coordination, prioritization, capacity and resource planning, as well as representing data analytics at various forums.
  • Build out business-facing self-service reporting tools with a focus on elevating efficiency and the business’s time-to-insight.
  • Advance the maturity of the team’s analytical capability and assets.
  • Ensure the integrity of data being used to make business decisions, sourced from multiple systems. Assess and manage risk to support the safe and appropriate use of data in alignment with banking industry regulations and standards.
  • Be responsible for Data & Analytics team culture, development principles and ways of working, ensuring the team maintains a focus on continuous improvement, high quality within the business’s delivery framework, and the adoption of industry best practices.
  • Lead recruitment and development discussions for the Data & Analytics team, leveraging your deep technical experience and passion for learning to mentor talented professionals and emerging leaders.

What you will bring

  • A track record of developing and leading a data and analytics team within a cloud-based environment.
  • Strong organisational skills in a shared services context, with the ability to be a trusted voice across senior leaders of broad backgrounds and confidently present insights back to the business.
  • A capacity to prioritise, coordinate and deliver large packages of work with limited/ambiguous requirements, aligning disparate requests into strategic programs of work.
  • Extensive experience managing work in an enterprise data context, using lakehouse and warehouse platforms and tooling (e.g. SQL, Python, machine learning techniques, PowerBI, Databricks, DBT, to name a few), with a strong focus on delivering business value from complex data sources.
  • Sound knowledge of data governance and management principles and practices such as CPG235, and familiarity with data modelling, data pipelines and data orchestration best practises.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy robust analytics assets and automated processes within a quality development framework.
  • Experience working in an agile delivery framework at a portfolio management level, with associated tooling (e.g. Jira, Confluence).

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a technical discipline relevant to data and analytics (e.g. engineering, statistics, econometrics, and advanced analytics majors).
  • Previous work experience with Databricks in an enterprise context is an advantage.
  • Exposure to regulatory, financial and/or operational reporting, and previous experience in the financial or banking sector.
