We are looking for an ambitious candidate who is a fully CCAB qualified, highly motivated, and significantly experienced and innovative finance leader to join Isle of White NHS Trust, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. The role of Head of Financial Services has prime responsibility for the provision of the full range of financial accounting operations necessary for both organizations to fulfil their statutory and non-statutory duties and obligations to the Trusts and to their Charitable Funds Accounts.

Organizations within scope are as follows: Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board, Southern Health Foundation Trust, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, University Hospital Southampton, Solent NHS Trust, South Central Ambulance Service, Isle of Wight NHS Trust, Hampshire Hospitals

  • The preparation of the statutory annual accounts, audit and counter-fraud liaison, financial aspects of the Shared Business Services (SBS) and Oracle financial systems, as well as cash, VAT , capital and leasing accounting.
  • You will lead a team of individuals covering Financial Accounts, Financial Systems Accounting, Cashiers and Overseas Visitors Officers.
  • You will be able to demonstrate excellent technical skills, whilst possessing a wide breadth of knowledge and awareness around NHS requirements.
  • The Head of Financial Services role reports directly to the Assistant Director of Financial Services & Reporting but will be accountable to both Finance Directors as part of the single corporate service.
  • You will be an integral part of the Financial Leadership team and will be expected to support the Financial Services needs of both organizations and the executive.
  • This will require matrix working and will include leading on projects that potentially cross organizations as part of a single corporate function.
  • You will need to possess excellent communication and leadership skills and a real commitment to excellent service delivery.
  • You must be creative and innovative, with the desire and ability to propose changes to working practices and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Essential
    • CCAB qualified.
    • Significant-Post Qualification Experience.
    • Evidence of active continuing professional development.
  • Desirable
    • Recognized Leadership Development programs.
    • MBA or similar post-graduate qualification.

Experience

  • Essential
    • Has experience of effective partnership working with other organisations at a senior level.
    • Experience at a senior level within a financial accounting environment.
    • Can demonstrate evidence of setting and achieving ambitious targets and of implementing innovative solutions designed to improve services within tight financial constraints.
  • Desirable
    • Has experience in managing within complex health service environment at a senior management level.

    • Can lead, motivate and inspire others, and allow others to lead if appropriate.
    • Is immediately credible to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Can employ a range of influencing and negotiation strategies.

    • Demonstrates ability to self-manage workload and complexity to operate effectively.
