eSafety is seeking an experienced technology leader and passionate technologist to oversee its Strategy and Architecture practice, serving as a strategist and technical advisor to the senior executive. In this critical new role, you will work collaboratively across teams to mature and govern eSafety’s technology architecture, strategy and roadmap whilst helping foster a culture of innovation within the organisation in alignment with business goals.

  • develop and maintain an enterprise architecture, technology strategy and roadmap to provide business first solutions and guide investment.
  • establish fit for purpose governance mechanisms that ensure digital and ICT investments stay aligned to the strategic direction of eSafety.
  • provide informed, expert technical advice and advisory support to the General Manager of Technology and Strategy and the CIO, as a chief technical advisor (this includes keeping up to date on technology trends, producing papers and briefings, and drawing on other internal/external expertise where required).
  • explore and exploit opportunities for business driven, ICT enabled innovation by maintaining an up-to-date understanding of key business priorities and processes through stakeholder engagement, business analysis and user research.
  • evaluate new and emerging technologies and provide a business case for change to ensure eSafety can continually stay ahead of the curve and leverage the benefits of IT modernisation, helping the organisation move toward a cloud-native ecosystem where applicable.
  • help eSafety modernise its regulatory operations through use of technology.
  • establish and cultivate strategic and operational relationships with key internal stakeholders including technology managers, operational staff, senior executive and eSafety’s shared corporate IT services provider.
  • establish strong working relationships across government to ensure eSafety is able to tap into whole of government strategies and opportunities.
  • represent eSafety at relevant forums, task forces and technical working groups, and able to tap into whole of government strategies and opportunities.
  • direct the development of relevant ICT policies and standards.
  • oversee and position governance and strategy as business enablers, not barriers.
  • effectively manage staff, budgets, planning and risk.

Required skills

  • proven experience delivering technology strategy and fostering innovation in a government or similar context.
  • deep architecture and technology expertise with the Microsoft technology stack
  • demonstrated experience acting as a technical advisor or providing advisory services.
  • very strong writer, presenter, and communicator, confident to present on complex technical issues in plain language to senior stakeholders and staff.
  • excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively across the organisation and with external stakeholders.
  • demonstrated experience leading digital transformation initiatives including developing best practice strategies and solutions and managing change.
  • record of achievement in leading, managing, and motivating others to achieve tactical and strategic goals.
  • strong interest in the work of eSafety and related online safety technology issues (see tech trends, eSafety newsroom and key topics for topical issues).
  • tertiary qualifications in a technology related field.
  • knowledge of relevant frameworks applicable to government IT, enterprise architecture, information security and data privacy.

Desirable skills

  • experience within both government and the technology sector
  • experience with digital innovation in a regulatory context
  • experience with Trust and Safety (T&S) or police technologies (e.g., digital investigations, OSINT and forensics tools, content moderation techniques, content classifiers (AI & ML).
