The Director of Human Resources role is a key member of the leadership team at Toyota Industries North America, Inc. and serves as a trusted advisor to the President. This person manages the Human Resources Shared Services functions within the company consisting primarily of 5 pillars: Retirement, Welfare and Executive Benefit Programs, Human Resource Information Systems, Payroll, Compliance and Labor Relations for approximately 40 U.S. subsidiaries (15,000+ Associates). In addition to these external facing services, this position also oversees HR Best Practices for TINA staff (including but not limited to Recruiting, Policies & Procedures, Associate Relations, Compensation, Performance Management, Leave Management, Training & Development, Engagement, and Workers Compensation).
- Responsible for development and compliance of multiemployer benefit plans including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness, life insurance, disability, and voluntary benefits. Responsible for plan design, rollout of new plan offerings, contract management and vendor selection.
- Oversee multi-state payroll processing in headquarters role for affiliate companies. Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws.
- Manage the organization’s ADP Vantage HRIS system and reporting needs, coordinating dual databases with future expectation of consolidation.
- Primary North American HR Liaison with Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO). Works closely with TICO and North American group companies to ensure excellent communication and full support for the promotion of TICO Group’s global HR activities (for example Toyota Precepts, global training initiatives, ICT program, etc.).
- Responsible for North America labor relations activities, including management of labor related activities, keeping up to date with NLRB focus, KPI labor management indexes, morale survey management for group companies, oversee wage and bonus programs in accordance with TICO HRM concepts, and both the prevention and response to labor issues that arise at subsidiary companies.
- Responsible for associate relations for TINA staff and overseeing for group companies– including the investigation of harassment/discrimination complaints, responses to regulatory agency inquiries, dispute resolution, executive support, and problem-solving.
- Responsible for new policy development, policy compliance with applicable employment law, and company-wide rollout for changes. Also responsible for policy interpretation to support group companies and management.
- Manage external HR vendor relationships reviewing all contracts, renewals, RFP’s and ensuring that the vendors are operating in accordance with agreed upon expectations.
- Lead the short term and long term strategic planning for the Human Resources shared services developing long-term benefit, payroll, HRIS, compliance and labor strategies. Responsible for TINA HR Department HOSHIN.
- Manage HR functions for Merger and Acquisition activity.
- Manage all aspects of Human Resources internally in accordance with HR best practices including Recruiting, Compensation, Performance Management, Leave Management, Training & Development, Engagement, and Workers Compensation.
- Serves as the HIPAA privacy officer for the benefit plans and responsible for all aspects of administration of the Toyota Industries North America Welfare Benefit Plan HIPAA practices.
- Serves as Chair of the Toyota Industries North America Retirement and Benefit Committees.
- Chairs the Compliance Advisory Board, which oversees all Compliance related activities for North America Entities.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- PHR/SPHR certification preferred
- 10+ years work experience in Human Resources and managing shared services environment required
- Knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and practices and the ability to apply them in company specific situations.
- Must have the ability to exercise judgment and make sound decisions quickly while interpreting company policies and legal requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to compose and deliver communication materials to all levels of the organization.
- Ability to handle emotionally charged and confrontational situations in front of both small and large groups.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all situations and to operate ethically in all business matters.
- Ability to resolve conflict throughout the organization and encourage collaborative working relationships between all departments to achieve company goals.
- The ability to influence and persuade individuals within the organization to buy in to company direction and create a shared vision.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with external vendors as well as internal customers.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, TEAMS, PowerPoint and Excel and other standardly used workplace technology.
- Experience/knowledge of ADP Vantage (HRIS/Payroll system) preferred, but not required

TRAVEL:
Travel may be required up to 20%. Most travel is domestic to training or subsidiary company locations, but international travel is also required as part of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and communicate verbally and in writing. Manual dexterity and coordination are required to operate standard office equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and printer.
