As Director of Underwriting Operations – Shared Services, you will lead a dedicated team focused on back-office underwriting functions across personal lines, commercial and agribusiness lines. Your role is pivotal to our success, driving excellence in data management, business insights, process improvements, underwriting training and quality metrics. This role supports underwriting operational business areas and is a resource to deliver insights and successful business results. This role directly leads multiple cross functional teams focused on data, insights, training, business process and quality.

  • Leadership: Guide multiple cross functional teams specializing in data, training, business processes and quality.
  • Expertise: Leverage your extensive knowledge in property casualty underwriting to support and enhance team performance.
  • Innovation: Implement modern training approaches to ensure effective adult learning
  • Insights: Deliver accurate and timely business insights to enable data-driven decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration: Partner with underwriting and other business partners to achieve strategic objectives and incorporate multiple perspectives.
  • This role is responsible for strategic planning, budgeting, and executing on plans. You must develop strong internal and external relationships to continue modernization efforts and focus on continual improvement in our data and business process design. You must bring in depth understanding of property casualty products and metrics to deliver successful outcomes. You will be responsible for effectively developing a high performing team and fostering a positive team culture.

How does this role make an impact?

  • Provides leadership and mentoring to assigned staff. Establishes measurable standards and evaluates operational area and individual employee performance.
  • Establishes and maintains an efficient and effective workflow to maximize productivity and maintain high quality service in assigned operational areas.
  • Partners with Information Technology Systems (ITS) on system planning and prioritization of projects, including analysis needed to enhance products, services and technology specific to assigned areas.
  • Manages the implementation and maintenance of disaster recovery plans and activities in assigned areas. Maintains current contact information for all employees in applicable areas and communicates with non-recovery employees during a disaster.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale high performing teams and processes.
  • Deep understanding of key underwriting and operational performance metrics
  • Effective communicator for presentations to variety of audiences including agents, vendors, business partners and executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and tactical leadership through cross functional teams.
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment and effectively deal with change.
  • Takes personal responsibility for making tough decisions, meeting commitments and achieving expected results.
  • Typically requires 12+ years of relevant experience or a combination of related experience, education and training, including at least 8 years of management/leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree preferred.
  • Advanced insurance education preferred such as ARM, CPCU, CIC, etc.
